Newly formed Linden Civic Society group working towards PPP/C Region 10 victory

at up coming elections says chairman Jafar Muhammed

A newly formed group, the Linden Civic Society, has pledged to work towards ensuring the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) wins the majority votes in the bauxite mining town of Linden and Region Ten, (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice), which has a history of being a stronghold of the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) at the upcoming Regional and General Elections. Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle last Tuesday of the group going public at this time Chairman of the Linden Civic Society Mr. Jafar Muhammed said: β€œWe would like to make it public that there is a group called the Linden Civic Society that would be working along with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) to ensure that they are successful in this year’s elections. Our intention is to see the PPP/C win Region Ten (Upper Demerara / Upper Berbice) for the first time and we would like to create history here in Region Ten and see the PPP/C win this region.”
After some six months of planning Muhammed opined that β€œOur group, the Linden Civic Society will be working along with the other groups that will be working with the PPP/C groups to ensure that they are victorious here in Region Ten. We have been established for roughly six months here in Region Ten. We have a Board and we will be trying to extend our membership here in Linden to show the willingness of Lindeners to vote PPP/C come this election.”
Looking at their plans Muhammed said: β€œOne of our main aim is to work along with every ministry in this country to ensure that the ministries are run much smoother. In other words, we will be having someone that will be like a shadow minister to each and every minister of government.”
Quizzed on the reason he has taken this step, the owner of a pharmacy remarked: β€œWhat spurred me to move in this direction is because I have recognised that throughout the years, and very soon I will be 43 years old and I have recognised that I and many people like myself, have never gotten involved in politics and I just see it fit for people like myself who have knowledge, but just distance ourselves from politics generally. I see it fit for us to get involved because I am seeing ways where we can make a meaningful contribution not only to our country but to our community on a whole.”
Asked about the chances of other groups duplicating efforts to convince the Town’s electorate to vote for the PPPC, the Linden businessman observed: β€œIn collaboration with the other groups we will work with the local established PPP/C body here in Linden and with every other group that wants to see the PPP/C successful here in Linden.”
His analysis was β€œLike in Mathematics 7 and 3 equals 10, 8 and 2 also is 10, 9 and 1 is 10, the common denominator there is 10.And the common denominator as we see it here is to see the success of the PPP/C here in Region Ten. We hope that all the bodies would work along in a very firm way to ensure that this political party is successful at the upcoming elections.”
Muhammed explained: β€œThis group is endorsed by the PPP/C and I want to say thanks to His Excellency the President Bharrat Jagdeo, thanks to the PPP/C Presidential Candidate Mr. Donald Ramotar, thanks to the Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon for endorsing us, and giving us all assurance that we will be working together to see the success of the PPP/C, not only in Region Ten but in the General Elections.”
When questioned on what could be gained from his group’s perspective to support the PPP/C Muhammed pointedly stated one of the main things the Linden Civic Society is looking at is the sustainability of Linden and to have more jobs created, as he called for the business people to get more involved in terms of creating jobs.
According to Muhammed, businessmen in Linden need to get more involved in the political scene as β€œwe can also assist the administration of the day to create more jobs for our young people.”
He observed: β€œBecause we have recognized that if we take a back seat generally, and just allow the administration of the day to create jobs it can’t happen like that. We need to come out as business persons and help to create jobs so that our youths can go to work. So part of what we are looking at is for jobs being created in Linden
β€œPart of what we are looking for, is getting on the ground and finding out exactly what are the problems of our youths, our elderly people, our middle aged, finding out exactly what are their problems and assist the different ministries in delivering to those persons.”
Asked if members of the Linden Civic Society have to be members of the PPP/C Muhammad said β€œnot necessary, that is solely their choice, but it is expected that when they become a member of this committee, that they will be voting PPP/C.”

I want to let those negative opposition letter writers know that they cannot fool the people of Linden
anymore, because the people are seeing and working together with the government
for the developmentof their town. The government under the leadership of President Jagdeo should
get high praise for bringing Guyana from what it was in 1992 to what it is presently.

Yours sincerely,

THE PPP/C GRAND PUBLIC RALLY IN LINDEN

When the PPP/C took office in October 1992, with Guyana having a debt burden
of US$2.2 billion, this administration had to use 95 per cent of the revenue
earned to pay back the debts. At that time, Guyana was rated as the poorest
country in the Western Hemisphere. Today, under very good management, we
can proudly boast that our country is rated as a middle income country. Although
the world is going through economic turmoil, Guyana has still recorded positive
growth rates. This present administration must be complimented for their efforts
and their hard work. Over the past 18 years, the PPP/C administration
has spent billions of dollars in Linden and Region Ten asa whole. But I will deal
specifically with Linden in this letter.

ROADS:

Millions of dollars have been spent in rehabilitating roads in Linden.
Burnham Drive was resurfaced and extended to Christianburg burial ground
as an all-weather road. No more red dust in our kitchens and bedrooms.
Winifred Gaskin Highway: was rebuilt with perfect bituminous surface.
Over $150 million was spent on the West Watooka farm to-market roads.
Multimillion- dollar road networks were being done in the Amelia’s Ward Housing
area; and this year about $300 million are being spent on many roads in Linden.

WATER:

GWI had been spending hundreds of millions of dollars in the water sector in Linden and at
Amelia’s Ward. Another new well was installed. Presently, the pipelines are
being removed and replaced with new lines.

They sure did a lot for their contractor friends who now have bigger bank accounts.
What have they done to avoid nurses from being raped or prevent patients from dying due to neglect.

Contractor working for a living, would be receiving payment as per contructural agreement for jobs performed, and contracts are being awarded based on a bidding process........and in any country that you can think of, there are rapes.

Patients would die in hospital, all over the world it happens, but the lying AFC would want to make people to believe that this happens only in Guyana.

Well there is a contructural agreement, if the contract says that payment be made upfront, then so be it, if the contractor/s tries to swindle the Govt then it is a case for the law.

No contractor should be paid up front. One of the criteria for being a contractor has to be that they have funds and is fiscally viable before getting any contract, this would ensure from the get go that 1 they are able to complete the job, pay their workers etc. and also ensure they dont take the money and abscond.

The legal system in Guyana is very backlogged. Precautions like these are standard in most countries except Guyana.

This 30 day guarantee bullshit for their work also is another PPP manifestation, it needs to go and now. Its complete bullshit.

Fox in the hen house. THe only thing he will do is rob us more. The PPP is absent an intellectual pool. They lie to the world they are open yet they refuse to reform the constitution so there can be constituent base elections. In their entire existence they have not held local election. These are the same crooks who spoke of local neglect and the right of individuals to decide their own fate. ANd then there is the pandering to Africans. Lets be clear, this government is an Indian hegemony. It dispossess the African voice no less than the PNC did. They only do it better since they persuade even black people to act against their interest and is the reason they will not reform this patronage system we have. It increases their control in a gramscian way.

The PPP has been the rise of fascism in our society. No honest person should rest secure with these crooks in office. This is the one who squatted on two boards for 2 decades and became rich while doing nothing for his people. Did he ever voice a concern for the People who were affected by the OMAI toxic spill in their community? What the hell has he done to address the millions of gallons of toxic sludge in their communities? While he became fat off the loot from this polluter the people ate cake.

Democratic development framed as the rise of PPPinc does not enthrall me. Conserving racist hegemony does not capture my attention. I like them better when they had vision and were idealist seeking to change the despot rule and bring us into democracy. I do not admire them for being seduced by the culture of greed, racial nepotism and the lack of democracy that is their present paradigm

More reasons for Linden to support the PPP/C
1000 houselots to be distributed at Amelia’s Ward One Stop Shop

Georgetown, GINA, October 13, 2011
Source - GINA

A total of 1000 houselots will be distributed at Ameila’s Ward, Region Ten on October 20 when the Ministry of Housing and Water hosts its one-stop-shop exercise in the Region, to fast-track the processing of allocations.

The disclosure was made today by Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon who explained that preparatory investments were made for roads and drains, potable water and electricity to the tune of $500M.

Speaking at today’s post Cabinet media briefing, Dr. Luncheon said the exercise will be the twelfth such for the Ministry for 2011, taking the total number of houselots distributed through the exercise to a record 6,500.

The first one stop shop exercise in Linden occurred in May 2009 and 1,000 houselots were up for grabs.

Recently an exercise was held at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara that provided for the distribution of 100 house lots at Hope South Housing Scheme, an area which benefitted from a $79M infrastructure investment by the Ministry of Housing and Water.

During the period 2000 – 2010 the Ministry invested $21B towards the provision of services, of which $15.2B was invested in housing, creating over 30,500 house lots and benefiting 125,000 persons on the East Coast of Demerara.

Along with providing allotees the opportunity to realise their dreams of owning a home, the Ministry’s housing drive has an added advantage of fostering the creation of integrated communities consolidating religions and ethnicities to interface and share resources.

Allottees are often warned against manipulating the One Stop Shop system to acquire more than one lot as the Ministry will be publicly display at the Neighbhourhood Democratic Council’s notice board the list of house-lot allottees.

Today Dr. Luncheon was asked about the Government’s approach to the policy of reclamation for persons who have been culpable of manipulations or have procrastinated on the stipulated time available to build.

Dr. Luncheon acknowledged that the situation has been one of concern to the Government even though alottees are often apprised at the level of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) of their obligation to build and the resources available to them.

β€œEfforts in the allocation are made to ensure as much as possible that the recipients can indeed access funding, or possess funding to commence construction. I think quite an amount of time is spent by the CH&PA functionaries in advising the houselot recipients what the expectations are and to be assured that in accepting the offer, it is understood that this obligation arises,” Dr Luncheon said.

Two more one stop shop exercises are planned to be held before year-end as the Housing Ministry hopes to make a further 4,500 lots available in Bath, Zeelugt, Leonora, Amelia’s Ward, Herstelling and Good Hope among other locations.

The CH&PA has been responsible for supervision of all the necessary roads and infrastructure, and according to Minister Ali, such a move has saved the Government hundreds of millions of dollars in investment.

With the construction booming think of how many jobs will be created in Linden. Builders, Masons, Electriction, Painters and many more.

asj the PPP is sntaching back the houselots where people have failed to build within a set period.

Well if there are no new jobs in Linden and many are unemployed, and those with jobs are scraping a living how will thety be able to build?

I see they are being "lent" the houselots before the election and the PPP will take them back after.

What is fascinating is in all this prattle about what the PPP is doing for Linden there is never mention of new industries or jobs.

asj within one of your many pieces of misinformation they refer to taking back lots not developed by people within a set time period.

If people earn little or nothing they will lack the ability to build so if Linden continues to lack an economy then few homes will be built.

So until you provide data which suggests new industries or job creation in Linden, now a very poor town, many will lose the houselots.

So why boast about something that is a temporary gesture aimed at fooling the people that the PPP loves them?

The little bit of sympathy that the undecided voters will have are now dwindling because of person like you.........now nobody is listening to the AFC.

Your strategies sucks, and will not work.
