Registrar of Deeds, Azeena Baksh was charged today with fraudulently causing or procuring valuable securities in the total sum of $4.5 million.
The charge stated that Baksh pretended that she was a contract employee of the Deeds and Commercial Registries and committed the crime between May 1, 2014 and January 31, 2017.
Baksh pleaded not guilty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to the charge and was granted $250,000 bail.
Her matter will be called again on June 6.

Before you rush to judgement, there are two sided to a story. Nigel Hughes thinks differently. She will have her day in court.

Hughes pointed out that his client accepted the offer of employment with the Deeds and Commercial Registry and was paid severance in keeping with the offer of the permanent secretary. He said the payment of salaries is prepared by the Human Resources Department and submitted to the finance department for disbursement. β€œMs Baksh does not have the authority to direct the Human Resource Department or the Finance Department, to make any payment of salaries; these departments report to the governing board of the Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority; nor has she ever authorised the Human Resource Department to place any member of the Deeds and Commercial Registry on the payroll.

What I'm concerned about is the timing of the charge. The lady is in her last trimester of pregnancy. This means she is expected to deliver her baby within weeks if not days. Why put her in this stressful situation now? Suppose she gets a stillbirth? Will Bungling Basil, the mastermind of this charge, accept responsibility? Couldn't the chargers wait a few weeks more?

I won't comment on the nature of the charge itself; that is a matter for the court to examine.

I have to agree Bungling Basil Williams is a crude fella.

I wonder if this charge has anything to do with the fact that she is the daughter of a former PPP Minister, like how the other woman who was charged with the GRB accounting error is the daughter of the Organizing Secy of Freedom House.

Ramotar's daughter was also pulled in by SOCU.

Those people are a friends and family Cartel. Any former party hire will be friend of family
