Bollywood starlet Sherlyn Chopra will be the first Indian woman to appear nude in Playboy.

According to Hugh Hefner's Twitter, she will appear in the November issue of the magazine, which is banned in India.

The BBC reports that Chopra, 28, has said it was 'not easy' but that she could not 'miss the opportunity of posing nude for the world's most established adult magazine.'

She said, 'It is not an easy task to be nude in front of the camera and look good at the same time."

She says it was she who wrote to Playboy expressing an interest in posing, and the magazine got back to her 'within three to four days'.

'I have become the first Indian to pose naked for Playboy and nobody can take away that achievement from me,' Chopra said.

'My sister is proud of my achievement. I haven't told anything to my mother, but I think I will visit her and tell her that she has to accept me the way I am.'

Chopra, born in Hyderabad, is of course facing criticism for the decision in her famously conservative native country where even kissing is frowned upon in movies.

"At a time when innocent women across the nation from Gujarat to Guwahati have been subjected to sexual abuse and humiliation, one wonders if Sherlyn Chopra's pictures wound a woman's integrity,' wrote blogger Gayatri Sankar – via the New York Daily News.

'Isn't it an irony that on the one side as common women strive hard to safeguard their modesty, the Sherlyn Chopras encourage voyeurism?'
