THE power-thirsty opposition must explain to Guyanese why it is misusing its one-seat majority to create gridlock and stalemate in Parliament. Vice-Chairman of the Alliance For Change, Moses Nagamootoo, is being faithful to his role to distort and misrepresent the truth as he tries to exonerate the AFC of blame and responsibility for the despicable situation obtaining in Parliament. What is taking place there is part of a carefully orchestrated plan between APNU and the AFC to stymie and destabilise the work of the government. The opposition has convinced itself that it is capable of distracting the government from pursuing its developmental plans and objectives without taking into consideration that any such distraction, if successful, would be to the disadvantage of Guyanese.

The opposition-led unrest in Linden and Agricola are no mistaken plans as these events conform to the opposition agenda to slow down the pace of development. By the very acts of those who instigated and staged the unrest, the government now has to spend time and energy on rebuilding infrastructure that existed before.
The only reason gridlock and stalemate exist in Parliament today is because of the combined opposition, APNU and the AFC. Nagamootoo and his colleague architects of this confrontational, non-progressive type politics are aware that their actions have the potential to stymie and slow down national development, but instead they opted for the negative path.

Again, Nagamoottoo is true to form in his claims that the AFC was successful in exposing corruption within the government, when the records will show that the opposition has not been able to successfully point to one case, with supporting evidence of corruption. In their corruption campaign, quite the opposite was revealed as people were coming forward with evidence of AFC leaders’ involvement in practices of corruption and conflicts of interest. There are many cases involving allegations of Nagamootoo himself double-charging for the relocation of residents for the construction of the Berbice River Bridge.

The corruption campaign by the opposition was used as a platform for their grandstanding as they were unable to come forth with anything solid. The NCN Debate Series on Corruption provided them with an opportunity to prove their case to the nation but instead being unable to do so, they turned their argument into right and wrong approaches. This is the dishonesty Nagamottoo and others in the AFC continue to support, they blah! Blah! Blah! all the time.
As we speak, the opposition is busy meeting trying to engineer its next confrontation with the government, while the government is busy pursuing its development objectives, fulfilling its manifesto promises and moving the economy along. The PPP/C Administration will not be distracted by the relentless negativity

Is this your new mate now Pandit Nehru?

A mad rush to hear the sex tape in the city yesterday

Risking arrest, activist Mark Benschop yesterday caused a stir in the Stabroek Market area after he used a music vendor’s cart to play a taped sex conversation of a government official, prompting scores to flock around him.
Benschop, who is no stranger to clashes with authority, arrived shortly after 11:00 hrs at the Ministry of Human and Social Services where he played the tape recording, ostensibly for Minister Priya Manickchand-Murli to respond in view of the fact that she had claimed that she had not heard the tape.
According to the activist, who also operates an internet radio which has been growing in popularity, explained that he has learnt that the Minister has not heard the controversial tape and as such he decided to β€œaccommodate” her.
β€œGovernment must take action on this. Kwame (…..surname mentioned) has used his office to intimidate people. In this case, a little boy has been the victim. Kwame is not the victim…it is the little boy who is the victim. The Minister of Human Services must make a statement on this matter.”
Even though several staffers of the ministry were seen hanging over the balcony with amused looks on their faces, there were no signs of the minister and Benschop, after a 30 minutes wait, made his way pushing the cart to Brickdam Road to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He was trailed by several persons who shouted encouragement and said β€œda is Kwame voice…”
According to a passerby, Benschop β€œlook like he selling CD now…”
In front of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Benschop did not have time to settle down when two ranks came out of the compound and inquired his reason for being there.
The activist explained that he had heard that Minister Clement Rohee, who also heads the police force, had not heard the tape between β€œKwame” and the little boy and therefore he is assisting by bringing the tape.
The two ranks returned to the compound and shortly after, a senior police officer came out and again inquired the reason for Benschop’s presence.
Benschop again explained. However, the officer advised him that permission is needed to conduct his exercise. At this, the activist asked the officer for ways in which he could achieve his objective, that is, to give Minister Rohee an opportunity to listen to the tape.
He was directed to the Brickdam Police Station to see Commander Leroy Brummel.
He also advised Benschop to turn the volume down on the cart.
The activist then turned his cart around and made his way back down Brickdam where police orderlies of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts warned him to turn it down again. He headed to the Stabroek Market area, north of Demico, where crowds gathered around listening to the tape.
Since the tape became public, there has been deafening silence from the government side.
