Even if there was no ISIS, Al Qaeda and its like, or Taliban or the backward practices of the Pakistan honor killing, child brides and women wearing chador and not seen in public, etc., the question of what Islam should be today or what can it be today is still a topical question.

Ross Duhat in the New York Times yesterday raised some interesting aspects of this question. He says that the West looks as Islam as a religion rooted in conquest and violent jihad (not just a fight for the mind - jihad as a struggle and not as violence; but one where death to apostates, like Dueteronomy is also in the Quran).  I ask, can Islam tolerate plurality? Can it embrace other theologies (the Quran in Surah 2:256 says there is no compulsion in religion; though don't tell that to the Taliban or ISIS). Can Islam be interpreted to the modern values and mores? Maybe Chief and others can weigh in here.

This is where the question becomes fundamental in my mind. Is religious belief (set in ancient times) unchangable in one interpretation, and whose interpretation? Ross Duhat posits that for Islam to change Muslims must be at home with the liberal democratic west, but it cannot become something else entirely. Being at home in the liberal west means you believe in the immutability of Islam and behave just like conservative Christians. Being something else means Islam's irrelevance.

Ross Duhat opines that both of these play in the hands of ISIS. It's like damned if you do and damned if you don't. Am I a Muslim if I do not pray 5 times a day and attend masjid only at Eid? Am I still a Muslim if I drink socially and attend parties?

There are those who believe that Islam in the modern times can exist somewhere in between these two worlds. Most of GNI folks say the same thing but articulate it in ways that drive Muslims to defend some caricature of Islam. And I speak of the likes of caribny and baseman. Kzaazzz sometimes fall into their trap.

Islam has no place in the modern world. It has discredited itself. Two main differing versions of islam have been the cause of many massacres in the Middle East in the last two decades. Bombing of the mosques of the opposing factions is a regular occurrence. You do not need any further evidence that we are looking here at satanic worshipping.

I regularly see this figure of 0.001% quoted, But that figure only tries to tally the ones engaged in hardcore violence. The actual percentage who are devoted to the cause is far greater. It is only because of increased security methods from the various government that the violence perpetrated by muslims on non-muslims isn't greater.

It is a lot more than less than 1%. I say this because the moderates who are in opposition to this kind of Islam are silent, or slow in speaking out. I am sure the majority of muslim also see Buddhists and Hindus as "infidels", and Islam does not permit a working relationship with them. More and more of them are doing so today. This has to be a problem fought from within, a solution cannot be imposed by the western countries.

We are constantly reminded, there are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. Why do muslims keep referring this number. Is it an indication of dominance. Should I be worried that my beliefs are going to be compromised by a faith that has mere numbers, associated with so many wrongs against non-muslims. All over the world.

Maybe, the muslims on here could answer this question. Is it true that Islam will dominate the world-according some Middle-Eastern Muslims? Before you answer, please be sure you check what the authentic people of Islam said about that prophecy.

Even if Muslims profess the hubristic view of Islam, I have to refer where it says in the Quran that there is no compulsion in Islam. If it is said that you will not go to heaven in the hereafter on the Day of Judgement because you don't do practice EVERY aspect of the religion, then it is like any other religion.

The 1.6 billion figure includes a majority of Muslims who are like in the 80% median (think the Bell curve) that do not pray 5 times a day or go to mosques often, etc. This is not a majority who are ascetic, conservative or extremists but they are Muslims. It is mentioned because it is a significant number of people on the planet who are being told they are terrorists or support terrorism, while no other religion does this. It is not that Muslims want to dominate the world and cite this number. Again, it goes back to the lack of compulsion in Islam.

Actualy T, here's a question that I saw in yesterday's NY Times quiz on religion. Which scripture describes the Virgin Mary as preferred by God over all other women? And the answer was the Quran (the other choices were the Gospel of Luke, New Testament; and the Gospel of Matthew, New Testament. This had me thinking of what aspect of virginity is meant here - remain a virgin - pure and not touched; or a reward?

For those who still believe that real Islam and the majority of Muslims see a non-Muslims and automatically process that person as an infidel should consider the following Qur'anic verse;

ØĨŲŲ†Ų‘ŲŽ اŲ„Ų‘ŲŽØ°ŲŲŠŲ†ŲŽ ØĒŲ…ŲŽŲ†ŲŲˆØ§Ų’ ŲˆŲŽØ§Ų„Ų‘ŲŽØ°ŲŲŠŲ†ŲŽ Ų‡ŲŽØ§ØŊŲŲˆØ§Ų’ ŲˆŲŽØ§Ų„Ų†Ų‘ŲŽØĩŲŽØ§ØąŲŽŲ‰ ŲˆŲŽØ§Ų„ØĩŲ‘ŲŽØ§ØĻŲØĶŲŲŠŲ†ŲŽ Ų…ŲŽŲ†Ų’ ØĒŲ…ŲŽŲ†ŲŽ ØĻŲØ§Ų„Ų„Ų‘ŲŽŲ‡Ų ŲˆŲŽØ§Ų„Ų’ŲŠŲŽŲˆŲ’Ų…Ų اŲ„ØĒØŪŲØąŲ ŲˆŲŽØđŲŽŲ…ŲŲ„ŲŽ ØĩŲŽØ§Ų„ŲØØ§Ų‹ ŲŲŽŲ„ŲŽŲ‡ŲŲ…Ų’ ØĢŲŽØŽŲ’ØąŲŲ‡ŲŲ…Ų’ ØđŲŲ†ØŊŲŽ ØąŲŽØĻŲ‘ŲŲ‡ŲŲ…Ų’ ŲˆŲŽŲ„اŲŽ ØŪŲŽŲˆŲ’ŲŲŒ ØđŲŽŲ„ŲŽŲŠŲ’Ų‡ŲŲ…Ų’ ŲˆŲŽŲ„اŲŽ Ų‡ŲŲ…Ų’ ŲŠŲŽØŲ’ØēŲŽŲ†ŲŲˆŲ†ŲŽ (2:62)

  • Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. - 2:62

As a footnote, Allah is used in the Middle East to refer to God. Even the Bible used the word Alah to refer to God.

The 1% chose to become the Lucifers of death, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.  They have huge silent undercover moral support by the community in which they live.  Just think of the few thousand dancing in the streets as the WTC collapsed, how many more were hi-fiving behind closed doors.

The mistrust among a large swath of the US population is vast.

Islam needs to be rolled back on the US by banning that face mask garb, more actively tracking/monitoring people, outlawing any Sharia practices, etc.

The act of traveling to Syria/Iraq, expression of support for extremism, embracing Sharia, etc should be considered acts of treason.  This will allow the stripping of naturalized citizenship and the close control and/or internment of born citizens.

We are at war!

How about the 12 tribes of Israel. Is God gonna overlook the Islamic denials of their existence. There are a whole lot of scriptures about those who challenge the children of Israel.

Sure, in the last days, the burden to be righteous would be very trying. Persecution is the trial to find the 144,000 righteous souls who bears the affliction for Jesus Christ.

There seems to be a confusion in understanding the sacred books. It suits different people with different objectives.

The heart knows the Almighty. Like it is written, that is His temple and all the scared thoughts come to heart. Evil ones too. The Holy Spirit gives discernment.
