Region 6 Regional Administration rewards young cyclists

Basking from their recent success in the cycling arena in Guyana, two young champion cyclists continue to be rewarded for their recent exploits.

The two riders Balram Narine and Sheneika Teixeira, who hails from the Corentyne area, are both members of the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC). Narine is a student of the Skeldon Technical Institute, while Teixeira attends the Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary School.
They were the most outstanding cyclists at the recently concluded National School Track and Field Athletics, Swimming and Cycling (Nationals) Championships which was held at Leonora, West Demerara and the National Park Circuit in Georgetown.
The two young riders were recently rewarded by the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 6, East Berbice, Corentyne when the RDC held its monthly statutory meeting in its board room at Vryman’s Erven New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Doing the honours was Regional Executive Officer Kim Stephens who congratulated the riders on behalf of herself and the RDC on their recent success and wished them well in the future. She also had words of appreciation for founder and Coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts and the work they have been doing over the years.
Other councilors also used the opportunity to offers congratulations and words of appreciation.
Roberts and the two cyclists expressed thanks to the members of the RDC for their kind gesture and promised to continue to do their best to not only make the district and region, but Guyana proud.
Representing District Six, Corentyne in the Open category at the annual event, Narine scored three first and one third. He placed first in the 800M, 1000M and the grueling 40KM cycle road race. He copped third in the 1500M event. Narine also holds the record for the 800M cycle race which he set in 2015.
Teixeira was even more outstanding on the distaff side as she copped five first, four in the cycling category. She first whipped her rivals in the 1500M, the 2000M, and the 3000M before returning to demolish her opponents in the female 25KM cycle road race in which she led a one, two, three for the Corentyne District. Teixeira also won gold in female Open Javelin event.
The two cyclists’ exploits went a far way in helping District Six retain the cycling Championship. (Samuel Whyte)
