March 14, 2016 Source

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) said it is pleased with the response of its supporters as regards its call for maximum mobilisation and participation in the local government elections scheduled for March 18, 2016.

“The mood of party supporters is high, full of excitement and readiness to exercise their franchise to elect their local representatives,” the party’s General Secretary Clement Rohee said at a news conference this morning.

“Following the electoral fraud perpetrated on the May 11, 2015 regional and general elections, the supporters of the PPP/C have openly expressed the demand that they want their country back with the PPP/C in office,” Rohee said, while reading from a prepared statement.

According to the Opposition party, “people see their participation in the local government elections as a harbinger for the next general and regional elections they have made it clear that they will utilise the local government elections to demonstrate and express their displeasure and disgust with the maladministration and anti-working people policies and measures adopted and initiated by the Granger coalition administration.”

From all indications, the Guyanese people anxiously look forward to fresh general and regional elections to reverse the results of the electoral fraud that deprived them of badly needed social and economic benefits, Rohee stated.

“In this respect, the electorate is pinning their hopes on the outcome of the Elections Petition filed by the PPP/C to hasten the change that will see the PPP/C back in government once again” he posited.

According to him, “hundreds of thousands of Guyanese voters are going to the polls on March 18, angry with the APNU+AFC coalition administration”.

“They are angry, over the constant lies and half-truths peddled by government ministers, the politics of deception practiced by the Granger administration but more specifically, they are angry over the large salary increases granted to Ministers after a mere two months in office, the removal of cash grants and other social benefits granted by the PPP/C administration to school children, pensionersand single parents and parents in general.

“The Guyanese electorate are going to the polls to cast the punishment vote against the APNU+AFC for their unfulfilled promises and the heavy tax-burdens recently foisted on them as a result of the passage of the 2016 budget,”  he stated.

They will merely punish themselves when the vote for Jagdeo stooges who are loyal to him, and having no interest in the residents.

When the villagers complain about mosquitos Granger will tell them to complain to the local council. After all that is a LOCAL responsibility, NOT national.

You are an ignoramus. A healthy democracy grows from the bottom up. Denying the people to directly participate in the democratic process of self government at the local levels was injurious to our society. It suffocated the incubation of leaders connected to the people and left that to party cabals selecting leaders from party hacks.

My point is these hypocrites still do not see local government as a means of bootstrapping local leaders who are independent thinkers. They are entrenched in the belief that leaders should be ideological slaves to party and their task in local government is not to see the best practices are met but as that quack suggests, "to hasten the change that will see the PPP/C back in government once again".

Those corrupt people should never see the inside of political power until their entire leadership structure has cycled through both its leaders and their ideas. They never speak of internal reforms only of grabbing power so they can leech off the state once more.

Emotional? It is reality and the reason they will lose. They see this local election not in terms of devolution and rebuilding local leadership capacity. They see it as a means to bootstrap themselves into office.

The fact remains that this mode of campaigning will keep them in the doghouse. They will win most of the local areas of indian dominance and they will forge no connection to areas of mixed and black population where the need to make inroads to win. They alienate this segment of the population with every move they make.

That is a fiction of your imagination.  In Guyana politics is now 50:50.  No one says otherwise.

Pity the PPP doesn't understand this and sanction its brown bai KKK section, who have destroyed their ability to win sizeable black and mixed votes.  Because their 50% is shrinking, with every plane taking off for JFK and Toronto.

Division within the PPP resulted on thousands of their votes in regions 5 and 6 going to the AFC. An AFC vote is technically not a PNC vote. Watch those votes return in 2020.

You know you can prance as much as you wish, but the 2011 Nagamootoo votes went back to the PPP in 2015.  A look at the regions 5 and 6 results show that the PPP had major gains.

So where will you get your votes from?

What has you all in shock was that you didn't know that the Indian vote was no longer the majority vote.  A strong black/mixed turn out, with a sliver of Indian votes, most from Region 4, was enough to overcome the PPP, despite your purchased votes in regions 1,8, and 9.  Those votes will be less saleable to the PPP by 2020, unless APNU/AFC is truly foolish.

95% of black and 80% of voters consider the PPP to be no better than the apartheid regime in its bigotry.

Billy, the PPP will certainly be back in government, firstly they have to restructure the party and get good presidential candidate,I don't know if their supporters thinks BJ will be back as President Guyana,if they do they are holding on to a rotten branch,he served his term already.

Whenever the slothful Bureau of Statistics releases the Final Results of the 2012 Census we shall get a good picture of the rate of decline of the Indian segment of Guyana's population. The preliminary results did not include an ethnic breakdown but the regional breakdown indicated heavy decrease in Region 6. Based on that, I had said here that the PPP could not regain its pre-2011 majority government. So said, so happened. In 2020 the PPP margin of loss will be wider than 4,506 votes of 2015 election result. Having regard to the opinions expressed by PPP supporters in GNI Political Forum and other social media, one cannot reasonably expect blacks and douglas to vote PPP in 2020.

Regarding Friday's LGE, I think the PPP will perform well in most of the rural areas.

The PPP will perform "well"  in Indian areas, whereas black areas are trying to develop local governance which is independent of the central government.

If the black areas end up with local leadership, which is more responsive to the local electorate, and therefore quite willing to confront APNU/AFC, when they see fit, while the Indian areas end up with Jagdeo stooges, I don't want to see any whining from the brown bai KKK crowd.

Apparently blacks understand what local governance is about, maybe the remnants of the old village council days, while Indians don't.

The PPP will win its traditional areas, meaning that they will control most of the municipalities and local councils.  They will then scream "victory", as Jagdeo still cannot believe that he isn't the president.

By 2020 there might actually emerge new and competent leadership in black areas, who might be able to provide national leadership. The PPP will remain enslaved by an increasingly discredited and dictatorial Jagdeo.

This is assuming that the percentage turnout remain the same in 2020. Voter turnout could change the equation.  If for example, the Indians feel alienated and run back to the PPP and the Africans feel betrayed an stay home it could spell the end of the Association in 2020.
