Camp and Lamaha Sts building up for rent

Posted By Stabroek editor On January 14, 2015 In Local News |

In a further sign of the weak market for hotels and office space, the modern building at Camp and Lamaha streets which was completed in 2013 is up for rent.

Originally, the tenants of the building, New Thriving Restaurant had planned an eatery and a hotel at this location. However in the last year or so New Thriving appears to have abandoned the hotel idea. New Thriving is continuing with its restaurant plans but is now preparing to sublet the rest of the modern five-storey edifice. New Thriving has rented the building from businessman Patrick Sukhlal.

An advertisement in today’s Kaieteur News said that the building was ideal for embassies, call centres, and corporate offices. It is described as approximately 40,000 square feet, with an elevator, central air conditioning unit with energy saving VRF Technology, a conference room and data and phone network access. It also says that it has parking for 800 vehicles. This may suggest that the parking lot is the embankment running along Lamaha Street. The building also has a generator with an ATS system, a pressure pump with a water filtration system and an independent electrical and data room. Interested persons are invited to Email investinguyana@gmail.com.

In October 2013, New Thriving had spoken about plans for a hotel and restaurant. The restaurant was to have been opened early last year but this did not materialize. Instead, New Thriving has rented out the ground floor for parties and banquets.

Multi – million dollar Call Centers to be constructed at Tuschen, Enmore

Call centers

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Construction will soon commence at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and Enmore, East Coast Demerara, for two call centers as Cabinet gave its no objection to hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts.

Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon told reporters at his post cabinet media briefing on Wednesday January 07 that a $114 million contract was approved to construct a call center at Tuschen while another $116 million contract was awarded for the construction of another call center at Enmore.

The project falls under the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and iNews understands that construction for both centers is slated to commence on January 15. The contracts were approved by Cabinet in the latter half of December 2014.

Officials from the Ministry told iNews that the call centers are expected to provide approximately 600 persons with employment and construction should be completed within six months of its commencement.

However, the Ministry is not certain as to when the centers will become fully operational, as potential investors are being sought. iNews understands that the main purpose of the call centers is to create employment for Guyanese.

A call center is a centralised office used for receiving or transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone. An inbound call centre is operated by a company to administer incoming product support or information inquiries from consumers. Outbound call centers are operated for telemarketing, solicitation of charitable or political donations, debt collection and market research.

why is the PPP gov't in hurry-up mode 'building' a couple of fowl coop (at $US half mil per), as if on a whim, with no business plan or proper reason (or tenants) other than some NEPS bais [or party election coffers] needing a raise urgently?

even were not parliament prorogued, this falls under the heading of ignorant, insulting, low-class, barefaced theft of taxpayer money by the Ramotar gov't. . . rape without conscience!

It reminds me of the tower of Babylon. Who's believe is it that if you build they'll come? With a population of just 500K, and only a small proportion of that capable of qualifying to even get a job interview, this looks like a money syphoning off scam. Even after more than two decades in power, the PPP is yet to carry out a single policy or objective that has benefited our economy as a whole. Only a small band of PPP insiders have benefited, and nobody else.
