SIBU: The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) gave a health talk and distributed bags of goodies and milk samples to children at Fu Yuan Kindergarten here yesterday.

The event was rolled out in collaboration with Pfizer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.The company’s mascot Ipin and Upin entertained the children.

About 600 bags of goodies and milk samples were given to the kindergarten children.

Speaking to reporters, PPP vice-chairman George Budit said the event was important in promoting health.

“We are aware that children nowadays are prone to sicknesses due to unbalanced eating habit.

“If we want to tackle this issue, we must teach children about taking healthy meals,” he said.

He said the health education given included a simple talk/lesson by a nutritionist who explained what constituted healthy food. The event was the first held in Sibu by the party and more health programmes are on the way.

“We have a cancer support group and other health programmes for the benefit of the people in Sibu,” he said.

George said PPP had conducted similar health programmes in the rural areas, particularly in schools. The next programme, he said, would be in Bawang Assan and other parts of rural areas surrounding Sibu.

“So our focus is not only in urban areas,” he said.
