popeyesPopeyes fast-food restaurant on Vlissengen Road and Duncan Street and the Texaco mini-mart on Mandela Avenue were robbed Tuesday night with police believing the attacks were carried out by the same men.

The restauruant was attacked around 9 PM and while none of the employees or customers were injured one of the staffers there fainted due to fright. She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment.

A company official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the men jumped over the counter and demanded all the cash from the register.

The police on Wednesday stated that the robbers, one of whom was armed with a firearm, held up cashier Jacqueline McIntosh and took away some GUY$389,000 before escaping in a waiting car.

An estimated five customers, who were inside the building, immediately went face down on the ground when the men barged in and loudly demanded the money.

Meanwhile, the police revealed that about two hours later two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered the Texaco mini-mart on mandela Avenue and held up cashier Samantha Daniels. They took away an undisclosed sum of cash and escaped on foot.

Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) understands that the police are convinced that the two robberies were committed by the same men.

No one has been arrested so far.
