Police in the US capital city of Washington DC has shot two suspects dead in separate incidents that occurred within hours of each other.

The first fatal shooting happened in the Southeast quadrant of Washington and the second took place in the Northeast section, police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said.

Police said that both the robbery and carjacking suspects fired at officers first. They said officers returned fire and killed both men. The officers suffered minor injuries.

Four other shootings took place in the nation’s capital in which police were not involved.

A woman was fatally shot in one incident and three men were seriously injured in the three other incidents.

The two police-involved shootings on Christmas Eve came at a time of heightened tension between police and communities across the US.

The deaths of several black men in recent months by white police officers who have not been indicted have sparked a series of nationwide protests against police brutality.

“It’s sad. Now some mother is grieving instead of celebrating because of the loss of her son,” said Paul Trantham, a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, adding that he “will pray” and “hopes what happened in Ferguson won’t happen here.”

Earlier on Wednesday, a gunman shot and killed a customer who was shopping on Christmas Eve at a mall near New Orleans, Louisiana.

Another deadly shooting on Wednesday evening took place in St. Louis, Missouri, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

Blame goes to Rohee and the PPP cabal.
