APNU supporters break up Victoria meeting, douse PPP supporter with kerosene- PPP
The incumbent Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) late Wednesday night accused supporters of the opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) of breaking up a public meeting, beating five persons and attempting to set one on fire.

In a statement, the party said the incident occurred at the Victoria Gas Station Road, East Coast Demerara in front of the Victoria Primary School.

The PPPC said at least 150 persons gathered at the venue of the meeting, armed with APNU posters and placards and hurled derogatory and racist remarks.

Police there, according to the party, were forced to intervene to prevent the group from storming the podium and getting their hands on PPPC speakers Joseph Hamilton and Anil Nandlall.

According to the party, after Hamilton and Nandlall were disturbed from making proper presentations over the microphone due to the loud chants of “Granger” and “PNC” and they eventually stopped speaking prematurely.

“On several occasions, while Mr Nandlall was speaking the crowd attempted to grab the podium but the police had to physically intervene to create a human barricade between the crowd and Mr Nandlall,” the PPP said in its statement.

All this time, they were chanting and shouting and cursing, proclaiming their support for APNU, Granger and PNC,” said the party.

AsHamilton left the meeting, missiles were thrown at him and at his vehicle and as Nandlall was delivering his address, the PPP said the crowd continued with its disorderly and ruckus conduct, on many occasions throwing their placards and posters at him while he was speaking.

The PPP charged that a member of the crowd set on fire a PPP poster and waved it in front of Mr Nandlall as he was speaking. A glass coke bottle was also pelted and it hit the podium.

When he finished speaking, police and PPP supporters escorted him to the Public Road and he left for another speaking engagement at another public meeting.

After Nandlall left, the party said five PPP supporters and activists were beaten and assaulted and one activist was allegedly doused with kerosene oil and the crowd attempted to set him afire.

The PPP further alleged that at the same time, another PPP activist was pelted with a bottle that hit him in the face and a man armed with a baseball bat then charged another PPP activist who had a licensed firearm.

The man discharged two rounds in the air, causing the crowd to back off. The police, the party said, intervened and took the PPP supporters and activists to the Cove and John Police Station.

A warning to the hierarchy of the PNC/R APNU and any other political party seeking to create civil disorder, you will be dealt with in a fast and nasty manner. No questions asked. Just action.
Amna Ally could go on television and feign ignorance of the PNC/R's violent nature. And Africo Selman could also publicly deny the PNC's propensity for violence

If this report is true, then it's a clear sign that trouble may be brewing.
This is a grave offence.

Basil Williams has decided to unleash his dogs of war, rest assured this kind of mob violence that the PNC/R has long been associated with will come to a brutal end should there be another attempt. This madness must end once and for all and the preachers of violence in the PNC/R will be the first to feel the effects. A warning was issued a few months ago that in the event the PNC/R cum APNU attempts its riot/arson tactics on Guyana's business centre the results will be catastrophic for the arsonists/rioters and the leaders involved. None will be spared.
There will be zero tolerance for the PNC/R's mayhem.

Look how all y'all falling for the okie dokie . . .

I'm willing to bet that this is a LIE . . . a stretch, at best a calculated attempt to stir passions with the most frightening imagery.

Why was NO ONE arrested for ATTEMPTED MURDER?!!

Note the caveats in all the 'reports' . . . how difficult could it be to set someone afire if you already went to the trouble of dousing him with kerosene??

Everything is a calculated attempt to do something or the other by the PPP. If this is always the case then why does the PNC keep providing fodder for the PPP supposed fear-mongering mill?

However, the police presence kept the hecklers in check until the meeting ended.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene, last night said that the initial report he received stated that the meeting was attended by some PPPC supporters, and a larger group of opposition backers.
He said that at the end of the meeting the police, who were present to maintain the peace, escorted Nandlall, who was in the company of another man, to his vehicle.
Nandlall subsequently left the scene but the man remained.
The police subsequently left and it was at this time that there were taunts.
According to Commissioner Greene, the man who fired the shots alleged that he was confronted by a crowd and he was forced to discharge a round into the air to scare them off.
The Commissioner said that at the time of his comments, he did not have the benefit of any written statement.
Kaieteur News understands that the man reported to the police that he was pelted with bricks and bottles, while one of his colleagues had his PPP/C t-shirt doused with kerosene.
But according to eyewitnesses, the man was not physically attacked and acted in haste, compounding what was already a volatile situation.
“The people were booing and he was walking away by himself. Then he stopped and fired a shot, walk a little bit more and fired another shot. Then people started to circle him,” one eyewitness said.
A few minutes later a passing police patrol car was flagged down and the ranks intervened and took the man into custody.
“The people were shouting to the police to arrest him and they did,” the eyewitness said.
The man subsequently produced the licence for the .32 pistol he had used

The PPP are so desperate, they are creating their own mayhem so they can blame it on the opposition. You have to understand, that when you go into an opposition stronghold to hold a meeting, there will be boos, heckling and taunts. It happens all over the world. The PPP will plan people in these meetings to cause problems so they can blame the oppostion and instill fear. But the people are on to their disgusting fear tactics. They are so desperate, it's pathetic.

Police on Thursday confirmed that someone fired gunshots at a tension-filled meeting Friday night by the ruling party in Victoria Village but disputed claims by the party that five persons were beaten and attempts were made to set one of them alight.

The opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Thursday said it was “appalled” by the PPPC’s lies and called media reports of kerosene dousing “dangerous and an attempt to incite violence.” APNU prime ministerial candidate, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine urged his supporters to remain calm as the “heat” rises.

"We do not believe that disruption and violence are in the interest of the APNU" he added.

Several persons were held by police for questioning at the Cove and John Police Station.

The PPPC has said that one of its activists, who is a licensed firearm holder, fired shots into the air when several of his colleagues came under attack.

Police have not detained the shooter and it was not immediately clear whether any spent shells were recovered from the scene.

Police sources said stones were allegedly lobbed at the meeting but those who claimed that they were hit declined offers by police to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigators have also not received any reports of five persons being beaten and one of them allegedly doused with kerosene and attempts made to set him alight.

The police sources, however, confirmed that some “elements” who are supporters of the opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) disrupted the meeting.

At least two APNU sympathizers, who were at the meeting in Victoria, confirmed that the PPPC meeting concluded prematurely and the speakers and activists left the village. One of them said the crowd became agitated when PPPC speaker, Joseph Hamilton allegedly said APNU presidential candidate, David Granger was unfit for that post.

The PPPC, for its part, has accused APNUites of using indecent language and verbally abusing ruling party associates while holding up placards of Granger.

Sometime today the police received a report through the media that persons had been beaten at the Buxton Rally held by the PPP/C at the Buxton Railway Embankment.

This is the second time in one month that the police have disputed claims by the PPPC that associates of that party have been beaten. The first such allegation was made one day after the incumbent party held a meeting in Buxton. Police, then, later said that it had received no such report though that did not mean that the incident of beating may not have occurred. The ranks on duty at the Buxton meeting had also neither seen nor received any report of beatings. Police had called on anyone who might have been the victim to report the matter to the nearest police station.

APNU called on the PPP to desist from misinforming Guyanese and the world that APNU supporters are disruptive

The only party that employs violence, rape murder and arson as a tool to gain political office. This is not fear mongering. This is merely repeating what is already a known fact.

From its grounding days in the early sixties, the PNC utilized violence as a mean to political office. In 1962, during police raids on major political parties' headquarters (HQ), it is at Congress Place, PNC's HQ, that the only known insurrectionary plan (Plan X 13) to overthrow the Jagan government was discovered. Burnham felt justified in such a move because Blacks, he felt, had the first right to rule the independent Guyana, a heritage born of their ancestors' sacrifices made during slavery.

Today, the same feeling of absolute right to government that gave rise to the PNC stands out large, teasing and taunting, especially after three heart-wrenching electoral losses. The party never concealed its intentions to destabilize the country; vitriolic slogans ("more fire"), talks of "revolution" and of making Guyana "ungovernable" were always present. The lucid message was simple; if the PNC were not in office, then no peaceful Guyana would exist. This is what we are witnessing today as people are being robbed, beaten, kidnapped, and killed (GUYANA UNDER SIEGE)

Are you so sure that this incident did occur.

Remember that if the PNC doesnt get its base out the PPP wins the majority, because it is increasingly clear that the AFC has lost support in Gtwn. Screaming out your dreams that this isnt so, or calling me a "PNC" will not change this fact.

And its not just me say so...even Kidmost agrees. He being one of the first anti PPP Indos to appear on GNI.

albert I hope you know that this is going to backfire. The APNU folks who might believe you will simply go to the AFC. Many PPP supporters might aslo go to the AFC, tiring of the 50 year war between the PPP and the PNC which has benefitted no one, outside of the few wealthy PPPites (the top PNCites are all very broke and poor).

This cusing and negativity coming out of the PPP at every meeting is turning off many Guyanese at this point. It might appeal to those who will support the PPP even if they put a frog to run, but those on the fence are sick and tired of this.

Agreed...Jagdeo and his gang will go to any extreme to hold on to power, him and asj use the same brain, cunning enough to create fear among the indians that the blackman is not to be trusted.
It is common among Berbice regional officials to say ' alyu want blackman to rule alyu again'.
Due to their selfish and corrupt reasons, Guyana is destroyed in the process.

It look as though Jagdeo, Rohee and the PPP are begging for trouble to start so they can get to test out the water cannon and I hope the people take it away and use it on them

It is not too far-fetched to cause trouble causing the election to be posponed, so that Jagdeo can stay in power longer.
