Persaud urged to remain committed and play with passion

West Indies Under-19 selectee Joshua Persaud was urged to remain committed and play with passion as he prepares to depart for South Africa and Zimbabwe. Speaking at a simple ceremony held at the GNIC SC in appreciation of the young wicket-keeper/batsman who plays for the said club, Chairman of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior selection panel Rayon Griffith encouraged Persaud to always strive for greater heights and stick to the basics.
”I am very happy with your achievement and wish you well on tour,” he added. CEO of GNIC, Clinton Williams, reminded Persaud that discipline plays an important role in any athlete’s success.
”You are now an ambassador for the region and I urge you to continue making us proud,” he said. He stated that the company has taken a decision that as part of their corporate responsibility they must contribute to the development of sports and are proud of Persaud’s achievement.
Also present at the ceremony was former West Indies all-rounder and current President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Roger Harper who stated that he is elated to see another young Guyanese donning West Indies colours and cautioned Persaud that this is just the beginning of his career.
”If you want a successful career, you have to work hard continuously for the key to success is hard work,” he said.
Former head of the senior selection panel of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), now Cricket West Indies (CWI), Clyde Butts who chaired the proceedings wished Persaud well and reminded him to play positive cricket and assist his teammates.
Regal Stationery and Computer Centre and Regal Sports presented a token to the youngster, with their representative Mohendra Arjune wishing the cricketer well.
Persaud and Bhaskar Yadram of Enterprise Busta Sports Club are the two Guyanese on the team that is set to depart on June 28 for South Africa where they will take on the host before traveling to Zimbabwe on July 23. The duo will depart Guyana tomorrow for a two-day camp in Barbados.
Led by Berbician, Shimron Hetmyer West Indies won their first U19 World Cup in 2016 in Bangladesh. The team also included Wakenaam all-rounder Keemo Paul and Demerara Cricket Club wicket-keeper batsman Tevin Imlach.
