Plans for the hosting of the first ever Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Patron’s Green Economy Cricket Tournament are falling into place with the event expected to bowl off on Saturday 1st July, 2017, at the Albion Sports Complex. Club Secretary Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the planning of the historic tournament along with Vice President Mark Papannah, has disclosed that the Tournament has received the official blessings of the Berbice Cricket Board and as such 8 (eight) First Division Teams would participate.
The tournament is being organised in honour of the Patron of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, His Excellency President David Granger 72nd Birth Anniversary on the 15th July, 2017. The eight teams that would be part of the tournament are Rose Hall Town, West Berbice, Blairmont, Tucber Park, Young Warriors, Albion, Port Mourant and Upper Corentyne.
The first round of matches and the two semifinals would be played using the 10/10 format, while the 3rd place playoff and the finals would be 20/20 and played on the 8th July. The tournament would be organised with the assistance of the Berbice Cricket Board Competitions Committee and the club has named Mr. Collis Butts to be its representative for the competition. Each of the teams would be outfitted with coloured polo shirts sponsored by KSM Investment and Bakewell. The two teams in the finals would also receive caps compliments of Impression Printery.
Banners promoting the tournament have been set up across Berbice, while television advertisement would start shortly. The winning team would take home $500,000 and the Patron’s trophy, the 1st runner-up prize is $300,000 and trophy, the 2nd runner-up would pocket $100,000 and trophy, while the 3rd runner-up will receive $50,000 and also collect a trophy. As part of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club celebration of its Patron 72nd Birthday, its eight cricket teams would be publishing a Youth Information Booklet on Climate Change and Guyana’s Green Economy effort. The Booklet to be edited by the Club’s Secretary/CEO would be distributed free of cost to youths across Guyana in an effort to educate them on the effects of Climate Change on humanity.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would also be sharing out 25 (twenty five) bicycles and 500 (five hundred) school bags to less fortunate students in Berbice, while cricket clubs would also receive donations of cricket balls. The total package would be worth about $2M and would be done under the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s Patron Fund.
A modern concrete scoreboard is also been constructed on the Area ‘H’ Ground under the Patron’s Fund. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would like to express gratitude to all the cricket officials in Berbice who worked tirelessly to obtain official permission for the tournament.
Foster is urging all cricket fans to support the cricket tournament as entrance would be free. Lucky Patrons at the finals would also receive prizes.
