Amerindian Chief (Chairman of Swan Community for the past 8 years) Agustine James Daniels, and National and Regional Candidate for the Independent Party (IP) was illegally removed as chairman because he and over fifty others in the community have left the PPP to support the IP.

Mr. Daniels said that he and others have served the PPP for over 20 years, and all the party does 'is take we Amerindian people for granted, we want change, we no longer wish to support the PPP...' ---- The entire Amerindian Community was asked to remove the IP's blue flags from the front of their homes.

We have since brought this latest development of victimization, threats and other forms of undemocratic maneuvering by the PPP regime to the attention of the US Charge d'affaires, Mr. Bryan Hunt, the British High Commissioner, Mr. Greg Quinn and Chairman of GECOM, Dr. Steve Surujbally.

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Augustine James Daniels is alleging political interference in the Swan Amerindian Community, along the Soesdyke Linden Highway.

Daniels has been serving as Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC), which falls under the purview of Philomena Sahoye-Shury, National Director for CDCs.

The man told iNews that he was fired in his absence and replaced by his secretary. He further claimed that he was replaced because he came out in support of the Independent Party, led by Mark Benschop.

Meanwhile, Ms Shury in an invited comment on the matter, told iNews that Daniels was indeed replaced, but stressed that this was done in response to the residents’ demand.

According to Shury, she was unaware of the problem until she was invited to the community for a meeting, at which close to 200 residents were present.

She said the residents then alleged that Daniels was misusing the community’s resources, including the state sponsored school bus and that he was not dealing with the community “appropriately”.

She further informed iNews that Daniels was accused of selling a Food for the Poor (FFTP) house for $4M, which is illegal.

Ms. Shury highlighted that the houses were built by FFTP, free of cost, and on lands provided to the community by the State, so that any sale of the houses/land was prohibited.

She said based on the allegations, the residents demanded a new leader, adding that “if the people want the change what could I do, could I stop them?”

Ms. Shury said she is in discussion with the Amerindian Affairs Ministry to have the allegations investigated.

This is not unusual in democratic countries. In Canada, if you are a Youth Worker and an alleged criminal serving time for murder makes an allegation that you have mentally them, even if untrue, then you are immediately suspended and placed on a Child Abuse register, pending the outcome of an investigation. Note that you name is not removed from the Child Abuse Register even if the investigation proves that the allegation is untrue. Innocense before being proven guilty is just farce.

it seems like the more responsibility is entrusted in some persons it’s the more of a let down they turn out to be through irresponsible behaviour. here’s he story
permanent secretary of the ministry of amerindian affairs nigel dharamlall could soon loose his job over allegations of physical assault which stemmed from a triangular love affair. the news strikes another blow against dharamlall who has come under immense scrutiny for his sex scandals involving staff members of the amerindian affairs ministry.
dharamlall is facing allegations of engaging in a physical altercation with a woman who plays no part in the maritial home [dharamlall is married]
as the story is told the woman went to mabaruma on an outreach for the amerindian affairs ministry, when she returned another staff told dharamlall that the woman he was involved with has sexual relations with a cso [community support officer] dharamlall obviously upset called the woman to his office and dealt her a sound thrashing to the point that he began to strangle her.
the commissioner of police is said to be in receipt of the report. minister of amerindian affairs pauline sukhai is also informed of the incident but has since been tight lipped about it
nigel dharamlall seemingly power struck even threateded to shoot ex GDF [guyana defence force] sergeant egbert mayers who is now a student officer at the amerindian affairs ministry
mayers has since been relieved of his duties as sports coordinator dharamlall believes he has knowledge of the abuse
efforts to contact mayers were unsuccessful
the woman is promising to take her own life because of the continuous threats she is receiving from dharamlall
this is an issue that was played out over a month ago and there is every reason to believe that efforts are being made to sweep it under the carpet
