Ok the new computer is working fine under win 8, I am use to it no problem.

However my HP printer and Epson scanner does not have win 8 drivers, there is no drivers for them, I searched. Also I have a few older programs that I run under XP but will not run under Win8. I do not plan on buying new printer or scanner or new programs for win8. My plan is to boot up my old computer which is running XP and use it for the other stuff that is not win8 compatible.

My question is, I want to use 1 monitor for both CPU's, is there a Y monitor cable that I can use. I have extra mouse and keyboard, so that part is no problem. I read somewhere that there is some sort of switch that I can just switch from one CPU to the other, instead of having to shut down one CPU before I go to the next CPU.

let me know the printer models. I will get the drivers if they exist.

YOu cannot use a Y cable with a monitor. You need a switch box. They cost about 10. You will need two more monitor cables. Check the box for the gender of the cables.

But if Stormy can find a Win7 driver for HP Laserjet 1000, it will save me having to use my toner on my color laserjet printer for no color printing where I used to use my Laserjet 1000.

Will look for you. I think I saw a solution. Someone said the XP driver works others said they tinkered with the GDI settings. Will recheck where I saw the answers explored and post the link.

and hooked it up yesterday. It is working fine and I am able to switch from one computer to the other at will. Printer and Scanner is fine now, works on comp#2

You should have gotten the keyboard/mouse combo switch box  as well so you wont need two of those either.
