Seaton breaks 22-year-old record

District 11, North Georgetown, captured championship honours when the poorly organised Ministry of Education, Guyana Teachers Union National Swimming Championship concluded yesterday at the National Aquatic Centre on the East Coast of Demerara.
Watched by a fair sized gathering who braved the uncomfortable heat in an uncovered stand at Guyana’s only International Swimming facility, 15-year-old Amy Grant, Paul Mahaica, Lien Winter, Andrica Vieira, Sekhel Tzedeq, Sion Jeffers, 13-year-old Leon Seaton, eight-year-old Jeremy Sookram and 11-year-old Aleka Persaud, who won gold in U-12 girls 1,000 meters race at Lenora on Sunday, all won two Gold medals yesterday.
St Roses High students Grant and Seaton captured three gold medals each, while Seaton broke Nicholas Fraser’s 22-year-old U-14 50 meters Free Style record of 24. 4 seconds.
Up to press time, more than three hours after the final race, no official results were released to the media.
