The missing tourist was cremated today in a private ceremony with family and close friends. As it relates that she was crying on the phone as she was going to the falls, her husband said nothing more than it's a private matter. That is the only statement I read since the woman was missing two weeks ago.

According the news, the mother was seen crying bitterly at the cremation ground, but the family never came forward and said anything about the deceased woman or if she was going through any domestic problems.

For this woman to premeditate her death by going that length to allegedly jump off the highest water falls in the world, something unbearable has to happen.

I was following this story from the first day she was missing. This woman was pretty and intelligent. I understand she came back from English with a masters degree. She shows no telltale signs of any problems until the day she was seen crying. However, we don't know her family background or if she had children.

Her problem is now a mystery. But I believe the family is hiding something from the public.

The family is not obligated to tell the public anything.

Laleta left her husband's home on the morning of September 1 without telling him where she was going.

When she did not return home that night, her husband Robin assumed that she had gone to visit her sister.

The next day the husband got the news from the press like everyone else.

Laleta had got a free ticket to Kaieteur from her cousin who works at Ogle airport.

I don't know Robin personally but I met his late father and I used to visit his mother's home as a kid, before she got married. BTW, Robin's mother is coloured/mulatto.

Gil, today I was in discussion with some people regarding formulating domestic violence/suicide prevention kits for our region, to be distributed freely,  as is done with other medical services.

It was emphasised  that depression is a disease and should be treated as other diseases. I agree.

The GOG should implement a similar program and I am sure NGOs will facilitate the fund.

Flood Guyana with these kits and if one life is saved, it serves it purpose.

Its difficult getting people to come to us for assistance, so lets go to them.

We did this with a Chiapas Indigenous craft program in Europe, with excellent results.

So you actually know this family, Mr. Gilbakka?
Why her husband didn't call to verify where his wife was rather than assuming she went by her sister? This call could have saved her life.

I am assuming it was a regular habit of hers to visit her sister.

Even if the guy had called her sister that evening, that call could not have saved Laleta's life because she was already missing at Kaieteur.

Anyway, both sides of the family are mourning and we must give them that space now. If and when they decide to talk to the public, they will do so.

I have to agree with Spinner Gil.

Let us give them space during this most difficult time.
