Minister of Human Services and Social Security Priya Manickchand with Doris Morrison on her 105th birth anniversary

Minister of Human Services and Social Security Priya Manickchand today paid a courtesy visit to Doris Morrison who celebrated her 105th birthday today.

Morrison who resides at Prince Williams Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara gave birth to two children, one of whom died on her 100th birthday. She has nine grand children, 26 great grand children and three great great grand children.

A birthday celebration was held to commemorate her significant age, and the event attracted senior officials from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, family, friends and well wishers.

Doris Morrison was born in Buxton and came to live in Plaisance during her teenage years. She had five siblings whom she outlived and enjoys soup, metem and has a particular taste for sweet dishes.

Minister Manickchand said that she was extremely humbled to witness the warmth, love, respect and affection which were displayed by family members, members of the local church and well wishers towards Morrison.

β€œThis is the kind of things that will make Guyana advance at a much faster pace if we can multiply it in every community across the country. The month of October will see the Ministry celebrating the elderly and I could not have thought of a better way to start the month of recognition than to celebrate it with Ms. Morrison,” Manickchand said.
