Castro spoke English very well.

Granted. But protocol required Spanish and Burnham nah bin know da language.

One would think that since Guyana is the only English speaking country in South America, that more of us would speak several languages.

The brits kept us with their anglophone colonies.  But soon it will become irrelevant. Amazon is developing an instant translator app so any language spoken will be translated verbally in the language of your choice.  

They have already tested it in India with two dozen local languages translated into English.

I actually agree. Mechanical Translators will be fine in transactional relationships!

While el burnham didn't know Spanish, I think he learned French at QC. Viola was French language teacher at BHS when el hombre married her. For sure el burnham learned Latin and occasionally included Latin phrases in his speeches.

Very true.  Monsieur Burnham knew some Latin which was taught in schools during his time.  And Viola was indeed was a French teacher at Bishops.  Their son-in-law, David Pollard, who is the Guyana ambassador to India knows French well.  His mom taught me to speak French.

Great memories of our past leaders. They did what was best in their vision to shape Guyanese society of what it is today. The images of these men will be around for decades to come. We must move on and think about our own future while there is time to inspire changes.
