Levi Nedd Returns as President of the Berbice Volleyball Association

Clubs and affiliates of one of Guyana’s very active sports associations, the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) met on Sunday for their Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The meeting, which was held at the Port Mourant Training School Hostel at Port Mourant, saw the indomitable Levi Lawrence Nedd being unanimously returned as President.
After two years of excellent leadership, Nedd, a former national captain and present national coach had no serious challengers. He is also the student Affairs Officer at the Guysuco Training Center and coach of the GTC/PM and PMTC teams. Albert Budhoo is now the new Vice President.
Secretarial duties will see Errol Chase serving as the Organising Secretary with Amanda Mohan being the Recording Secretary. Rashaad Razak was returned as the Assistant Secretary / Treasurer. Samuel Whyte will continue to serve as the Public Relations Officer.
The five committee members elected will see three males and two females serving in the positions. They are Richard Samaroo, Jared Jhingree and Govind Singh the males, while Candacy Mentore and Telissa Williams are the females.
Former BVA President and GVF Vice President Gregory Rambarran was the Returning Officer.
The Executive Committee met immediately after the meeting and formalized the 2018 yearly Planner, which will again pay keen emphasis on youth and female development.
Plans are also in train for more fund raising activities to assist with, the education and training and development of clubs and the Association. The BVA will also be attending to the Development of the game within the education system from Nursery to University levels, with the usual support from the education department.
Nedd in his report thanked a number of entities for their support. Among them the National Sports Commission (NSC), The International Olympic Association (IOC), Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), Guysuco, Businessman Balram Shane, Spready’s Bakery, Poonai Pharmacy, Department of Education, Ansa McAl, Banks DIH, the Overseas TV Alumni, Saint Francis Community Developers (SFCD) and the various News Media houses amongst others.
He highlighted the many successes during the year 2017, emphasizing the BVA and affiliated clubs, full participation in a number of overseas ventures. Of note was the participation of the female and juniors.
Among the setbacks looked at were lack of funds to manage the association, lack of support, lack of timely execution from higher levels of authority among other issues.
The clubs that participate were PMTC 1 and 2, GTC/PM 1 and 2, Black Bush, Rollers, Port Mourant females, Jets Males and Females, Kendall Union Sports Club, Orealla and No 52 Survivors. (Samuel Whyte)
