Lata Mangeshkar expresses grief on legendary singer Kishori Amonkar’s death

Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar expressed her grief over the demise of legendary singer Kishori Amonkar, saying her death is a huge loss to the Hindustani classical music.

Renowned classical vocalist, Amonkar, passed away last night at her home here after a brief illness. She was 84.
Taking to Twitter, Mangeshkar prayed to the almighty to give peace to the departed soul of Amonkar.

"Mujhe abhi abhi pata chala ki mahan shastriya gayika Kishori amonkar ji ka swargwas hua, ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Wo ek asaadharan gayika thi.

"Unke jaane se shastriya sangeet jagat ki bahut haani hui hai. Ishwar unki aatma ko shanti de. (I just got to know that legendary classical singer Kishori Amonkar is no more. I feel really sad. She was an extremely talented singer. Her demise is a huge loss to the Hindustani classical music. May God bless her soul)."

Many other singers and celebrities like Shreya Ghoshal, Shabana Azmi, Vishal Dadlani too shared their thoughts on Amonkar's demise.

"What a loss have been her ardent fan and consider myself fortunate to have lived in a time I could here Kishori Amonkar sing," wrote Azmi.

Ghoshal posted, "#KishoriAmonkar ji no more. One of my biggest inspirations. Her voice and mellifluous gayaki has been a part of my life since childhood."

"RIP the legendary #KishoriAmonkar ji. The world of music, dims without her light," wrote Dadlani.

Singer Kailash Kher tweeted, "One of the greatest singer performer of classical has left this world for her heavenly abode. An institution of music. #RIPKishoriAmonkar."

Music composer and singer Salim Merchant tweeted, "Kishori Amonkarji has departed... Her music is immortal and will continue to influence generations. She is our Bharat Ratna! Will miss her.”
