Land of Many Waters face Land of Flying Fish next Wednesday at Leonora

Guyana’s Under-17 Lady Jags will take center stage next
Wednesday evening from 17:00hrs at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora when they take on Barbados in the first match of Group D play in the CONCACAF Caribbean Female U17 Qualifiers.
The Guyana Football Federation’s Technical Staff would have been putting in the necessary work to get the young ladies in prime shape for the matches that will also see them taking on Cuba in the three days of qualifying.
The young Guyanese lasses will take on Barbados next Wednesday from 17:00hrs and will close out their quest to advance further in the competition when they match skills with Cuba on Sunday August 13, next at the same venue. On Friday, August 11, Barbados and Cuba will go head to head.
When Guyana had qualified for the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup back in 2010, the Lady Jags had rebounded from a 1-0 loss to the Cubans in Havana to beat their rivals 3-1 in the return game at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence becoming the first Guyanese team to qualify for a CONCACAF Finals.
The make-up of this current team is however more local based players than the team back in 2010 and 2015 in the Olympic Qualifiers.
Just a single overseas player is in the line-up which features players from Kwakwani, Lethem Orealla, West Coast Demerara and Georgetown. The GFF had announced that International Goalkeeping Coach, Hope Clarke will be joining the Guyana Technical Staff.
Head Coach is Akilah Castello and the team is back in camp from August 1st ahead of next week’s matches having already benefitted from a two-week encampment, last month.
The GFF is urging fans and supporters to come out and support the team next Wednesday and Sunday at Leonora where admission is absolutely free.
Guyana is among five nations hosting the group stages of the tournament including St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia.
The competition will be hosted in two phases: the Qualifying Group Phase and the Qualifying Final Phase. According to the regulations, the qualifying phase of the Caribbean competition shall be played separately within the Caribbean, thus providing the agreed representation for the 2018 CONCACAF 2018 Women’s Under-17 Championship. Three teams from the Caribbean zone qualify automatically to the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship, the two finalists and third place winner in the qualifying final stage.
