Jaipaul Sharma back with APNU

Leader of the Justice For All Party (JFAP) Jaipaul Sharma has rejoined A Partnership for National Unity, ten months after his sudden resignation from the coalition.

Sharma confirmed his return during a brief interview, while APNU said that it recognised JFAP’s continued support, “as a strong and committed partner” to contest the 2015 General and Regional Elections.”
“A Partnership for National Unity remains committed to our vision of a Guyana in which all citizens can live productive lives free from the ravages of poverty, are secure in their homes and in their communities and are able to enjoy the benefits of political, social and cultural liberation,” the release said.
“In this regard APNU recognises the continued support of the Justice For All Party (JFAP) as a strong and committed partner in the partnership to contest the 2015 General and Regional Elections.
“APNU rejects the principle of winner-take-all as the basis for forming a government. APNU as a multi-party grouping is committed to the inclusion of other political parties, along with organized labour, farmers’ organisations, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations, civil society bodies and patriotic citizens, “irrespective of ethnicity, social status, gender, age, religious or political persuasion”, insofar as they adopt and observe the core principles of APNU as declared in its published statement of principles.”
Sharma had tendered his resignation as an APNU parliamentarian in April 2014, after Minister of Education Priya Manickchand had made unsavoury comments about him during a parliamentary Budget debate.
The remarks referred to the high court trial of the Parliamentarian’s father Chandra Narine Sharma.
At the time, Mr. Sharma had said that he believed that the PPP/C would have used the matter pertaining to his father against APNU during an election.
