Jagdeo touts roadmap to make APNU+AFC one-term gov’t

Monday , October 12 2015, Source

IN ADDITION to pressing for reforms at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) must also work to tackle, head on, the irregularities flagged during the May 11 polls.  “We are not totally helpless, even without reforms,” declared Opposition Leader, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, at a Symposium held at Red House, where he was responding to queries form the hundreds who turned out regarding the need to ensure free and fair elections.

Jagdeo proffered the view in reviewing the “dynamics of rigging” one can identify where it happens, at least 300 polling stations.

“We can find 300 of the strongest PPP people who will never allow themselves to be bullied or chases out of the stations in Georgetown and these areas because if we block the stealing there, we win the elections,” he said.

According to him, some 41 polling agents did turn up at polling stations on May 11 for several reasons, including feeling intimidated.

The areas Jagdeo named included South Georgetown, Golden Grove, Buxton, Melanie Damishana in Region 4 (Demerara/ Mahaica) and areas in Region 5 (Mahaica/ Berbice), among others.

The next move to the polls, Local Government Elections, is expected by or before March 2016 according to senior GECOM sources.

Jagdeo contends that the elections are important for the PPP/C and will represent the first step to retake Guyana.

In the meantime, he noted that efforts must be made to rebuild the PPP/C from the ground up.

“All of you, there is no time for any division in our community or party groups across the country; they lost energy- some of our party groups…the comrades who had personality conflicts must shed those conflicts for the good of this party and for the good of the country,” the Opposition Leader said.

Jagdeo added, “We need to fix ourselves first so that we are the strongest organisation so that when the elections come, the outcome will be foregone a conclusion that we will win it handsomely and continue the development of our country.”

He was also asked about the options available to the PPP/C, other than waiting out the full five years.

Jagdeo explained that the options at hand are to either to move a no-confidence motion against the Government or allow the elections petition currently before the courts to be heard. There is also a chance, he said, of early elections if the Guyanese people voice their objections in a signal way to the current administration.

Whatever the option, the Opposition Leader was confident that the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) government is a one-term government.

“This is your fight too….they can’t bully us….PPP supporters have a right in this country too…if you give up they will walk all over us. We can’t give in,” he stressed.

The exchange between the party’s senior members and members of the public took place at a symposium, to mark the 23rd Anniversary under the theme ‘Achievement since October 5th 1992; Democracy under threat since May 11th 2015’, attracted hundreds of supporters who were accommodated on the laws of Red House, High Street.

From December 2015 to about March 2016 ... and then postponed for ???

FM

LGE already postponed from December 2015 to January 2016 and now to March? This is not going as planned. APNU/AFC rush the bill in parliament to meet the December 2015 deadline and told the PPP there isn't enough time to scrutinize it. now everything is sitting idle.

The PNC has boxed themselves in and their options are very limited.  They take shot-gun approach which will backfire and they will have little to show come 2020.  PPP will move in for the kill.  If the PNC have any notions of pulling off a Burnham-style "demorcracy" they are in for a rude awakening.  And the Indians are no longer keen on running away.  Many 10-yr visa holders come and return.  Many who cussed the PPP, now change their tune at seeing shadows of the old PNC looming, except for a few pathetic sour grapes in the diaspora.

Your brain gets very active when you dream.  If Indians fled under PPP rule, you think that they will stop fleeing now?

Havent seen you returning to Guyana.

Still have yet to say what the PPP did so well in moving Guyana's economy.  Imagine a scenario where gold prices were low, so the country didn't get the post 2008 bounce.   Retail, construction, and real estate would have been less buoyant.

Please name a successful PPP project which moved Guyana away from being an exporter of raw commodities into preferential markets.

It is good the PPP lost the majority in Parliament. And would hope they continue to loose ground once Jagdeo and his cronies are heading the party.

Jagdeo is known for confrontation and bullyism. And I would hope Granger find his footings soon and put that Cooolie Bully in his place. Jail. Such a move should free the Indoes to fully participate in the unity of the country. Placing him in jail at Camp Street would place Guyana on the road to real progress.

Are you joking?   The PPP will  not lose any grounds  no matter who is the Leader.  They will bounce back in 2020 as the Indians in Berbice have been awaken. The Prime Minister is a no show. All he is doing is trying to improve his social starta, and he is failing miserably at that.   The man wears the same suit everywhere he goes.  he is taking Guyana down to the gutters.  Thank God Jagdeo is there to stop him.

What do you think the uber crook Jagdeo would go about telling the people? Do you think he will tell them that he and his companions in Freedom house stole so much that people got tired and a few percentage of the PPP loyal sheep fled the Paddock so they lost the election fair and square? Obviously, not.

He will have to fabricate a narrative that is palatable enough for mass consumption. Black people cannot do anything is the eternal  dog whistle. They are compelled to steal to get ahead so they stole the election. It is a way to implant an "explanation" meme into the mind of an already receptive contingency. Racism is a disease born of self deception that one is more than the are so it is easily swallowed by any so conditioned to be deluded.

The Jagdeo crowd of bigots  knowing they have a pliable crowd waiting like desiccated desert travelers offer them the usual drink.  To them is offered the still that the new administration lost rice despite the fact the market went under their watch. Nothing will be mentioned of 150 million generated here went to prop up failures elsewhere.

They add  sugar to the lot. The thirsty clan will easily persuaded to look beyond the white elephant in Skeldon, the poor management and the production levels matching those of 1972! But the bigoted lot will accept anything but the truth

The PPP lost fair and square on account of their pervasive corruption and raids on the nations treasury. They plundered everything on sight. We are left to rehabilitate a drug based economy mired in debt with no industry in the black. On their way out they even sold a significant portion of the assets of the already crippled sugar factory in a juggling act to squeeze another 30 million from the system.

They cannot see office again for a long time. Nasty barefaced racist crooks as these should not even be given a public forum. Granger and his Jesus complex may give hem absolution but the rest of us ( and we are over one half of the population) knows the the labaria will always be the labaria so you do not bring it to your home. The PPP are beyond rehabilitation.

Agree the PPP cannot be reformed with its present leadership.

The People already forgot what Jagdeo did and they are now focusing on the ineptness of the PNC. Failing to condemn the inconsistencies of the PNC means that you encourage it. I don't give a rat's ass what the PPP did in the past, you cannot forever blame them for the PNC Government's failure. Slowly but surely this Government is taking Guyana down the sewer.

Na...more like 40% forgot. You guys still need to convince 11 percent to get to 51%.

Those two AFC baboons are doing that all by themselves. They are their worst enemies.   By the way, we got 49.3% of the votes cast and that is minus the 11% Moses lies to.

Note that you go9t 49.3%.  Not the 54% that you boasted about.

This is despite a 30k INCREASE in Indian support.

This shows that you can run around and scream "black man gun rape you daughta and kill ahbe", and even THAT doesnt guarantee you victory. This because the Indian vote is dwindling.

Bet you all regret that you werent nicer to those Indo girls with black husbands, because now their kids hate the PPP and the rest of the Indo KKK.

PNC has not reformed since in the late 1950's.

PNC is firmly controlled by the old timers from the 1950's.
