The Italian parliament has voted in favor of non-binding resolution to encourage the recognition of Palestinian statehood, in a further sign of the West's cooling relations with Israel.

Italy followed fellow European lawmakers in the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and Sweden in backing Palestine sovereignty Friday, thrust under the spotlight after a 50-day conflict in 2014 in which Israel continually and dispropportionately bombarded the Gaza Strip, leaving upwards of 2,500 Palestinians dead, many of whom were children and women.

The Israeli forces also left hundreds of thousands displaced and destroyed massive numbers of buildings. The total damage was estimated at about US$5 billion.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given the go-ahead for illegal building of accommodation on land set aside for a future Palestinian state, which has frustrated long-time ally the United States.

Italy's Chamber of Deputies voted by 300 to 45 to pass the motion presented by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party "to promote the recognition of Palestine as a democratic state.”

In contrast, many developing countries already recognize Palestine as a state, and do not see the need of a peaceful negotiation with Israel.

"We call on the Italian government to recognize the Palestinian state without conditions, to take serious and concrete measures to end the (Israeli) military occupation and to work toward a just peace," PLO committee member Hanan Ashrawi said in a statement.

Or did they just make ayuh feel nice with a strongly worded piece of worthless paper?

It is indeed just a piece of paper. As long as Israel has the US blessings to pillage Palestine, none else matter.

White people are still the masters at fooling schupid brown people it seems.

Pillage Palestine? for what? all their valuable supplies of sand and goat shit?

Fact is, you people engaged in wars of aggression in 1948, 1967, 1973, and got your Islamic asses handed to you on a Jewish platter. Get over it. You lost. Crying about it in every European capital isn't a remedy to this self inflicted wound.

The evidence shows that those white people (Israelis) are very interested in that sand and goat shit bai. They prefer to live in a world devoid of peace to have it.

Well, they won said sand and goat shit fair an square in the wars and by subduing the intifadas.

Peace does not come from giving into terrorists. Peace comes from bombing them into the 5th century until there's no terrorist left to bomb.

Look how peaceful them Germans and Japanese people are today.

That is the future of Islam. You all will become very very peaceful when the rest of humanity (the 6 billion infidels) beat you all into submission. And mark my words it will happen. Eventually you people will get tired of being bombed by the U.S. and Allied air force and will learn to engage in truly peaceful behavior.

Even "collateral damage" serves a useful teaching tool. I can foresee the day when Muslims in Pakistan don't want their weddings to be attacked by drones.

Yea, I'm sure the full might and power of Guyana in international politics will now get the Palestinians their state

Bhai, Guyana is a member of the United Nations and it count as how many countries support Palestinian Statehood. The U.S. may want to dictate how Guyana run their foreign affairs, but they would never dictate for Italy.
