Pankaj kapur is a phenomenal actor. He is a rare artist who has been equally competent in  films, television serials and plays.  He, along with actors  Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are considered the "Walking Acting School of India."

Pankaj Kapoor was born on 29th May 1954 in Punjab’s Ludhiana. He had studied engineering in New Delhi. He was also the college topper.

The Big Offer

The first big offer that Pankaj received was the role of Pyarelal, Gandhi’s second secretary in Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’. He had also dubbed for Ben Kingsley in the Hindi version of the film.

Kapur made his Bollywood debut with Shyam Benegal’s Arohan in 1982. He also starred in the Punjabi movie Maarhi Ka Daava and the Tamil movie Roja.

Pankaj Kapur chose to star in parallel cinema or art films. He starred in Shyam Benegal's Mandi (1983), Kundan Shah's comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro again in 1983. This was followed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza satirical Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984), Mrinal Sen's Khandhar (1984), and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's suspense thriller Khamosh in 1985. He appeared in many art films, many of which went on to win National Film Awards.
