I remember when you told us you got this job. That was some 10 years ago. The longest job I had at one place was at a hot dog joint while I was in school. I had that job for one year.

Dude, being an ignorant teen can sometime result in severe consequences, especially for ones farway from home.
Back then, we received an allotted amount of cash from home equal to the cost of tuition, food and board on a yearly basis. One submits a form to the bank of Guyana and they give you the permission to get the cash from the local bank. Guyana had severe restrictions on foreign currency outflows. I happen to get mine when I entered school and it was all gone in a couple of months through partying.
A guyanese guy from Canje we met, Felix, took the time to give us fatherly advice even though he was but six or seven years older than us. I can safely say that in an alien land, Felixes are a god send. Errol would know him since he is also best friends with another friend of ours in common. Without him I do not know how many of us would have made it. Most of the other guys did not have any money coming to them from anywhere. Lazy me could always count on my sister who was already a successful business woman and who always pampered me. I was however too embarrassed to tell her I went through my entire years allowance in a few months.
Felix found us jobs, saw to us we went to class in time, made sure we knew the "best" professors etc. He knew the management of this hotdog/hamburger joint and they give give all of us jobs. I hated it at first but it became a cool place to pick up girls from outside the school so I went to work every evening and had fun while I was there and made up for the money to cover expenses. I saw Felix a few years ago in the street. He was still working at the university. I know he possibly made a difference to hundreds of wayward kids like me away from home for the first time. He is a good guy.

Great story, bro. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad that I started my business with the redundancy money from my previous place of work. It's internet trading, which is increasingly the way people shop in many countries. I wish that I had started a decade ago, like a friend of mine did. He retired at 54 loaded.
I thought for a moment that Amral had a part time job in addition to his law practice, at d2's dollar store. hahahahah

Wow! Working in the kitchen? Man a lot of good food for dinner. I worked in the kitchen when I first got to America. Enjoyed the free food.
Being a cook is a good job. I have not paid for a meal in 16 years. Lets hope the owner of the motel does not read GN&I.
