The man shot people. That was his job. He was good at it. Blessed be him.

Personally, I don't think sniping is some heroic act on par with say walking very slowly to the armed enemy in front of you. But that is not to say it is not an act of bravery either. And it certainly is not cowardly. Soldiers just do their jobs. They are not responsible for whether or not it was a good policy idea to invade. That's not what democratic armies do.

A jury in Minnesota awarded $1.845 million in damages Tuesday to former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, deciding that he was defamed by the late Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle who said he punched Ventura out in a bar in 2006 after the former governor said the SEALs “deserved to lose a few” in war.

The news emerged after six days of deliberations in St. Paul, Minn. The award includes $500,000 in defamation damages and $1.345 million for “unjust enrichment,” according to the Star-Tribune of Minnesota. “Unjust enrichment” is typically awarded in cases in which the court finds that one person has unjustly or by chance made money at the expense of another, requiring restitution.

I can understand why he lied. Though I don't excuse it. Modern warfare is very predictable and largely boring. Most people are just trying to do their jobs, not punch their colleagues, swallow down yet another steak and lobster dinner laced with gasoline fumes courtesy of KBR, trying to carry on a sex chat in peace via AIM on a classified defense computer network without interference from S-6, and in my case on at least one occasion not pulling the trigger on an Afghan "allied" soldier I was pointing my rifle at because he was acting suspicious.

A former Navy Seal who went on to write a bestselling book chronicling his life as the US's most prolific marksman has been shot dead at a gun range in Texas.

Police said Sunday that the body of Chris Kyle was found by officers responding to an incident at the Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose the previous evening. Chad Littlefield, a 35-year-old friend of the war veteran and author, was also killed at the scene.

In a statement, Sergeant Lonny Haschel said Eddie Ray Routh, 25, of Lancaster, had been charged with two counts of murder in relation to the double shooting. The alleged gunman was found at his home just hours after the shooting, having earlier fled the gun range in a pick-up truck, it is claimed.

Haschel said the link between the men was not immediately clear. Routh was being held on Sunday at the Erath County jail on a combined $3m bond, authorities said.

Kyle was a veteran of four tours of Iraq whose shooting during battles in Ramadi and Fallujah earned him the nickname "al Shaitan" or "the Devil" among insurgents who put a bounty on his head.

Kyle drew criticism for drawing attention to his exploits by writing about the 150 insurgents he had killed between 1999 and 2009. The book, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History, became a bestseller.

One time two knucklehead Soldiers killed two "load bearing donkeys." I was immediately sent for by the commander and ordered to remedy the situation.

Turns out these jackasses had killed OUR donkeys. They were bored and just randomly shot these donkeys. The donkeys turned out to be part of our super low tech and surprisingly classified way of resupplying one of our mountain outposts with food, water, and ammo. Most of us with secret clearances were even unaware of this. I replaced the donkeys within 24 hours. It turns out it's not that hard to source new donkeys in afghanistan.

You'd be surprised how much classified paperwork is involved in replacing two valuable donkeys. Also, the coverup.
