Ray I believe the Guyana Constitution allows this pooling of Votes for the Presidency if it is decided and announced before the elections that this is what the two Parties (AFC & APNU) agrees to.

However, they currently have constitutional experts looking at it from every angle so PPP cannot cry foul after they lose de Govt.

AFC & APNU want Jail some of them Thieves.....and that is the Problem the PPP have now.

Can anybody point me to the exact location in the Constitution where it says that in Guyana a Coalition has to be formed before the election?

I also note that I cannot find any breach of the Constitution if opposition parties combined their gained seats in parliament to form a coalition goverenment. This form of government is quite common around the world. The UK government is a typical example of such a government,a s well as the government in Suriname. From the way I see it, a lot of assumptions have been made about this coalition business.

A good suggestion if the can work it out...

This for sure will send the PPP packing.

A suggestion for a new government

January 21, 2015 | By | Filed Under Letters

Dear Editor, On November 5, 2014, I wrote to this newspaper a letter concerning advice that I suggested to the leader of the opposition (APNU) David Granger and leader of Alliance for Change (AFC) Khemraj Ramjattan, on a matter of winning any elections in Guyana against the People’s Progressive Party. It will not be an issue of a coalition. This will be wrong all over; the P.P.P will always win them on this ground. Rather I suggest that the A.P.N.U and its leader David Granger do not contest the upcoming General and Regional Elections but fully support and campaign for the Alliance for Change. It was and still is my hope that with the A.P.N.U giving its full support to the A.F.C that these two parties will obtain victory. However, when the time will come to form an agreement, it will be an A.F.C and A.P.N.U Government. The A.F.C has been leading the way with the support of the A.P.N.U on most of the Bills that were presented before the National Assembly. There would be no problem with the A.P.N.U giving its support to the A.F.C. More so, the most popular suggestion in and out of Guyana today on this issue is that there must be a partnership of which the two parties, the Alliance for Change and A Partnership for National Unity are collaborating. I believe in what is best for Guyana. The Office of the President and the Office of the Prime Minister must be divided and shared. All the other Government Ministries Department and Agency must be negotiated in spirit of national responsibility love for our Country. Thank you. Dennis Atwell

It has to be before the election. That way the racial hucksters would say "see look how they team up with the blackman." Mrs Jagan was more explicit at Kitty in 1997. She said "don't split the votes." Elements in the PNC also do the same. For example, they believe the PNC must not waste its time campaigning in Indian regions.

I am not sure what the constitution says on this...

Excellent question Ray Ray, I learnt something.

Let's go back to the 2011 elections.

The People's National Congress Reform [PNCR] formed a pre-election alliance with the Working People's Alliance [WPA], Guyana Action Party [GAP], National Front Alliance [NFA], Justice for All Party [JFAP] and five other groups.

They contested the elections as A Partnership for National Unity [APNU] with an agreed-upon presidential candidate David Granger and prime ministerial candidate Dr Rupert Roopnarine, and with a hand as ballot symbol.

If all goes as planned, APNU will form a pre-election alliance with the Alliance for Change [AFC] with an agreed-upon presidential candidate and prime ministerial candidate. They will also have to agree on a name for the new alliance and a common symbol for the ballot paper.

And, just as the APNU alliance won 26 seats and entered parliament as APNU, the forthcoming alliance will go to the next parliament with whatever number of seats it wins under its new name.

One of the potential problems of AFC merging with APNU is voters might feel that it's back to PNC vs PPP....which I highly doubt that PNC will win...AFC seems more effective as a third choice

I am saying this based on historical voting patterns when it was strictly PNC vs PPP...only when AFC came on as a third choice did things finally shake up

I guess it depends on which candidate will the newly merged AFC/APNU put up...

Thanks Gil.

You're welcome, bhai. The door is always open for your support.

I still have a deep interest with the current political events in Guyana.

I wish the opposition well but I am a die hard PPP man.

Thanks Gil.

What happens if the results are the same as in 2011?

Mits

I will respect the results of the election regardless of which political party wins.

Let us assume for a moment that the results are the same, then the US ambassador described the last parliament as a lost opportunity and he is 100 percent accurate.

Guyanese politicians must learn to put Guyana first.

At this point the AFC has the key. Will the PNC turn the ignition on with the AFC key ?
