Martini Shots, Bollywood, Fri Apr 15 2016, Authors: Nikita Kapoor (Editorial Team), http://www.desimartini.com/new...mp;utm_medium=latest

It won't be wrong to say Lara Dutta is every thinking man's dream woman. After all, she is beautiful and witty and these are two qualities, everyone looks for.

On 12th May 2000, Lara Dutta was crowned the Miss Universe at the Eleftheria Indoor Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus. It's been 16 years and till now Lara continues to charm us the way she did back then. After Sushmita Sen, it was Lara Dutta who got the crown back in India and made us all proud!

Did you know that she applied for Miss India 1999? But she withdrew her application because if she ever was going to become Miss India, she was going to be Miss India of the millennium. Therefore, the following year she applied and became the Millennium of Miss India. Such was her confidence and the only thing that strikes our mind is "Can we have another Miss India like her?". HELL NO!

Lara is someone who is in complete control of herself and shows us if one has the determination to win, success is not far away. After winning Femina Miss India Universe, she knew she had to win conquer the world by winning the ultimate Miss Universe crown.

When Lara was asked, “If ignorance is bliss then why do we seek knowledge?” She replied: ”Knowledge is something every man is endowed with and it is up to him to make use of it. Thirst for knowledge drives every man. They say every man dies but very few men really lived. And what is life without knowledge. Would you go through life without passing something on to your children?” Well, this answer got her the crown and who wouldn't give her one?

During the last round, she was asked to demonstrate ‘Bharatanatyam’ but she explained that she couldn’t do it in the gown she was wearing since she needed to squat to dance and she explained the concept behind that particular style of dance and showed three hand gestures that are part of the dance. After this, everyone got familiar to the witty side of hers!

The final question that made her win

Uploaded by Nikita Kapoor on April 15, 2016, 4:47 p.m.

She was asked, “Right now there’s a protest that had been staged in outside the stadium posing pageants as an affront to women. Convince them that they are wrong.” To this she answered, “Pageants like Miss Universe give us young women a platform to foray in the fields that we want to and forge ahead, be it entrepreneurship, be it the armed forces, be it politics.” And added, “It gives us a platform to voice our choices and opinions and it makes us strong and independent that we are today.”
