Hamilton Green Cup Football starts tomorrow at MSC in Linden

The Hamilton Green Cup Knockout Football tournament will finally get underway tomorrow with a double header at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden starting from 7:00pm and Linden fans have been promised a treat.
Teams are battling for attractive prizes which include $500,000 and the Minister of Citizenship trophy for the winner, $250,000 and the Busta trophy, $150,000 and the John Fernandes trophy and $100,000 and the Cummings Electrical trophy respectively for the other top three finishers.
Former national footballer and Coach Lennox Arthur is the coordinator and stated that it would be opportune for a Linden team to win the tournament.
The previous winners include Pele, Camptown, Alpha, Western Tigers, Conquerors, Victoria Kings, Santos, Slingerz and Police. A number of the country’s leading players would be on show throughout the tournament and fans are promised a treat.
Tomorrow’s action slated for the MSC ground in Linden starts with Home side Milerock opening their account against Kuru Kururu at 7:00pm, while Silver Shattas, also of Linden, take on Soesdyke.
Milerock will depend Kevin Beaton up front, Nellon Walcott and Lawrenso Miller in the middle, Oswald Benjamin in defence and goalie Jonathan Copeland. Kuru Kururu will have Cordel Johnson and Michael Charles leading the attack, with Kester Fraser in midfield, Joseph Walker and Cotio Sitholie marshalling the defence with goalkeeper Joshua George the last line of defence.
Silver Shattas will look to Kellon Mator in goal, defender Romel Matthews, midfielders Michael Wilson and Dexter Garraway and strikers Robin Adams and Damion Wilson to lead their charge.
Their opponents, Soesdyke, will depend on Marvin Joseph, Tyrel Khan and Kelson Benson in the middle, Dorwin Batson in defence, goalkeeper Dide and striker Trayone Khan to get them past the Lindeners.
Play continues on Saturday and Sunday in Victoria on the East Coast of Demerara with triple headers each night starting from 4:00pm.
In the scheduled matches, Plaisance face Cougars, Golden Grove tackle Golden Warriors and Buxton Bakewell challenge Pouderoyen on Saturday. On Sunday, Mahaicony battle Grove Hi Tech, Mahaica come up against Riddim Squad and Ann’s Grove collide with Pele.
Only clubs and players affiliated to their respective associations will be allowed to participate in the knockout tournament. Matches will be the usual 90 minutes with 20 minutes (two halves of 10) extra time being used to separate a deadlock; failing which, penalty kicks and if necessary sudden death kicks will be employed. Players receiving two yellow cards will be suspended for one match. Serious offences will be dealt with by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Disciplinary Committee.
The tournament has already received full permission from the GFF.
The final of the tournament has been fixed for the Leonora Sports Facility on September 3.
