Gas station owner loses $1M after

daughter jumps from hijacked car

The businessman’s hijacked car

The businessman’s hijacked car

A Berbice businessman and his daughter were on Wednesday evening robbed of over $1M by three identifiable bandits, one armed with a gun, just as they were about to enter their home at St John Street, New Amsterdam.
The thieves, one wearing a hood and the other two unmasked, are suspected to have trailed them from their business place at Canefield, East Canje, Berbice, to their home, where the men hijacked the car (a Toyota Roctus PPP 9798) with the young lady still inside and drove away with the money.
According to information, businessman Raymond Arnold, 60, of 20-6 St John Street, New Amsterdam, owns and operates the R. Arnold and Daughters Gas Station. His daughter Diana Arnold, 23, an employee of Republic Bank, would at times collect her father from his place of work.
And Wednesday was no different, as the young lady collected her father just after closing his business and headed home. As they approached their home around 19:20 hrs, the car stopped just before the yard to allow the man to come out and open the gate.
After he did so, the young lady was about to drive in the yard when she noticed three men – two on foot and one on bicycle – approaching in her rear view mirror. Not taking much notice, the young woman was startled when one of the men stretched his hand through the half open window, pointed a gun at her and grabbed the steering wheel as he tried to open the door to get in the vehicle. A struggle ensued as the young woman refused to yield. She tried to drive the vehicle away, but the bandit held onto the steering wheel.
One of his cohorts accosted Mr. Arnold who was standing outside and demanded the money. The businessman refused as the bandit jumped into the vehicle. As the scuffle continued, the bandit managed to overpower the young lady and forced her over to the passenger side as he jumped in and drove away, just as the third bandit had entered the car where the $1M was in a bag.
As they headed into Strand, the woman managed to open the door and jumped from the moving vehicle, injuring herself in the process. She is said to have suffered a slight fracture to her back, injuries to her knees and hands.
The bandits then turned through St Magdalene Street and headed into the Vryheid, Angoy’s Avenue area.  The woman walked back to her residence where a crowd was gathered outside.
The police were informed and arrived at the scene. In the meantime, residents had also gone into action and chased behind the vehicle. One resident on a motor cycle noticed the car being driven at a fast rate and sensing something amiss, decided to chase behind it.
The driver turned through several streets before eventually smashing into a premises in the Vryheid area.
The damaged car with its right bumper smashed was found with the engine running and the inside ransacked.
The police subsequently recovered the car and lifted a number of fingerprints from the vehicle. Several persons have since been placed in custody.
The businessman and his workers had earlier noticed two strange men drinking at a nearby run shop not far from his workplace. The men then visited his gas station and asked for sweet drinks. After they were told this not was available they left and were lurking around other shops.
This is the fourth robbery the man has suffered. The last time being in January when thieves – believed to be the same three men – had ambushed him and his family and entered their home. They left empty-handed on that occasion. The businessman said he is disappointed with the justice system in Berbice and is contemplating quitting.
Diana Arnold was serving as a juror in the High Court in Berbice. She has since been excused from the trial.
Investigations are continuing.

Her boss has since been in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police in a press release said that Ramnauth was involved in an argument with a group of patrons at the night spot during which one of the men pulled out a firearm and fatally shot her to the head, after which they escaped.
Kaieteur News was informed that the owner was not at the bar when the incident occurred but he reportedly told investigators that he received a call a little before 23:00hrs from one of his workers who informed him that the woman had a β€œproblem” with some people.
According to police sources, the owner claimed that he immediately went to the bar and found his worker lying in a pool of blood behind a counter with a bullet wound to her forehead after which he informed the police.
The man, who has been renting the aforementioned property for the past several years to operate his restaurant and bar, was taken into custody late Wednesday night and was later released.
However, after taking statement from several persons, including workers at the bar, investigators rearrested him.
Yesterday at the scene, Rai Gurdat, one of the owners of the Chateau Margot property from which the business is operated, said that he was asleep when police visited his home.
β€œI am staying at the back of the bar. I didn’t hear any music so I assumed business was slow. The police woke me up and ask if I heard any gunshots and I said no,” Gurdat said. He added that investigators took him to the bar and showed him the body of Ramnauth lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
β€œI was shocked and I panicked. I didn’t hear any gunshots. Selena used to work hard, from morning to night, and she didn’t get paid for almost a year. The morning before she was killed, she said to me that as soon as the boss pays her, she will leave,” Gurdat claimed.
Kaieteur News was informed that Ramnauth was not only a waitress at the bar but also manned the night spot whenever her employer was not around.
According to Gurdat, workers quit working at the bar due to non-payment of salary and β€œSelena had to do everything. In the morning, she made cutters and cleaned, and in the nights she served.”
Investigations are ongoing.

According to some eyewitness, Ramcharan was standing with his hands raised when he was shot. The gunmen fled north up John Smith Street after the attack. Police say that they have detained a suspect.
The slain man’s son, Raymond Ramcharan, said that his father had been employed at Patsan Trading Services since 1995. Kaieteur News understands that he had been robbed at gunpoint on at least two other occasions.
β€œIt’s not the first time that he was robbed, but he would always throw the money at them (the robbers) and they would leave,” a source said.
Kaieteur News was told that Ramcharan, who had collected an undisclosed sum of money from customers, had just stepped out of his vehicle when two unmasked men on a CG motorcycle approached him. One of them had a handgun.
A source said that on seeing the bandits, Ramcharan immediately threw the money-bag over the fence, then stood with hands aloft. However, the gunmen reportedly ran into the compound and snatched up the bag. They then ran out of the compound and shot Ramcharan before speeding off on their motorcycle.
Kaieteur News understands that the shot salesman managed to stagger into the compound where he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

President chides GPF over number of

unsolved murders

April 25, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

- says low rate of prosecution also cause for concern

President Donald Ramotar expressed his dissatisfaction with the increasing number of unsolved crimes which are plaguing the Guyana Police Force. The Head of State while delivering the feature address at the opening of the Police Officers Annual Conference yesterday said that there is an alarmingly high incidence of unresolved crimes and low rates of prosecution, resulting largely from police failures.
According to Ramotar, these two issues can have serious consequences. He stressed that these could lead to heightened criminal activities within the country.
The president said that all the blame β€œshould not and is not being place solely on the police”. He said that he has already spoken to the Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall to address the issue with the judicial authorities.
Ramotar expressed his total disapproval at two highly debated cases. One is the β€˜Bourda shooting’ when local club cricketer Carlyle Barton was seen on surveillance camera shooting another man. Several months after being charged, Barton was released after pertinent witnesses failed to attend court and give evidence.
The second case which the Head of State made reference to was that of businessman Randy Jagdeo.  Jagdeo was charged with the murder of biker Kurt Davis. According to the president this case was truly heart-rending and shows possible scheming.
β€œHe had a motorcycle waiting on him at the court…It shows that he must have known what was going to happen that day!” the President stressed.
Ramotar noted that it was totally unacceptable for persons to escape justice because of poor preparedness of cases by Prosecutors, failure to ensure witnesses attend Court, failure to apply for witness summons, discrepancy in evidence and Police Officers failing to attend Court, all of which have been the result of failed prosecutions in recent times. He said that there must be an improvement to ensure that there is value for money.
The President also said that there should be greater collaboration between all the disciplined forces and the judiciary. Working together, he stressed, would help to put an end to criminal activities, lest it is encouraged and fostered locally. He said that if this is continued they would create an avalanche of crimes within the society.
The Guyana Police Force has been coming under increased criticism for its failures with many cases in the court. There have been concerns that the Force has not been doing enough to get witnesses to attend court and ensure that they offer evidence in matters before the court.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack, who was also present at the Police Conference, said that she has given the Magistrate direction to reopen the Barton case and to find and get a further statement from the missing witness in the Jagdeo matter.
According to the DDP, they had sent for the depositions in the Jagdeo matter and the witness who didn’t testify was supposed to give a further statement when it came for advice. The file was sent back to the police for them to find the witnesses, take further statements, and return it to the DPP Chambers.

Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) Justice Cecil Kennard has revealed that he received several complainants that police officers in the Lethem/Annai area are accepting bribes so as not to prosecute cases.

Kennard made this revelation during an exclusive interview with iNews (www.inewsguyana.com), following his countrywide visit to communities to interface with residents and police officers.

He explained that during his visit to the two areas – Lethem and Annai – residents complained that police officers are taking bribes not to prosecute cases and that they do not respond to in a timely manner to reports.

According to Kennard, residents also complained that the officers are disrespectful and fail to show up to Court for several cases.

Kennard told iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) that the issue of disrespect by ranks is no secret since he has had several first-hand experience with police ranks dealing with motorists and other road users in a manner that is despicable.

According to the Chairman, if there is no urgent remedy to this situation, then the police will continue to find difficulty in getting their jobs done. He explained that when police officers are discourteous, citizens become reluctant to assist them in their investigations.

The Police Complaints Chairman will be visiting the New Amsterdam and Essequibo areas soon, where he will be meeting with residents and police alike.

After Justice Navindra Singh ruled  on a voir dire, (a trial within a trial), which was conducted to determine admissibility of Wharton’s caution statement, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Elston Baird, was allowed to read the statement aloud, to the court. According to Baird, on November 5, 2007 Wharton, who was sixteen years old at the time, told police investigators at Brickdam Police station that he met the girl, named Sade at the aqueduct bridge. β€œMe and she walked until there was no shops. We went in de bush and Sade tek off she clothes and we continue doing, what we bin doing…sex. While his 36-year-old wife Lomattie Ramdat, who was also chopped about her body is claiming that they were attacked by two bandits who carried away $500,000, relatives and neighbours are almost convinced that it was the work of the woman’s lover who has conveniently vanished. Bharrat was found lying dead on his blood soaked bed with several deep chop wounds to his head and other parts of his body minutes after his wife ran out of the house and alerted neighbours around 04:00 hours. Police in a statement yesterday said that their initial investigations indicate that two men, both of whom were armed with cutlasses, entered the 418 Ninth Street, Haslington New Scheme home of Chetram Bharrat and his reputed wife Lomattie Ramdat, 36, through a window. The men demanded cash and jewellery during which the two victims were chopped about their bodies. Speaking with Kaieteur News from her hospital bed Ramdat said, β€œMe and me husband been sleeping and we wake up and two men just start chopping. They chop me and they chop he.” The woman told this newspaper that she tried to block the blows but received two chops on her hand and then fainted. According to the woman, when she came to, she saw her husband lying motionless on his bed. She managed to make it to a neighbour to whom she related what had transpired. The police were subsequently contacted. Gopaul Ramkumar, the couple’s neighbour to the east, said that he did not hear any screams when the attack was taking place but was only awakened by Ramdat’s knocking and calling his name. He said that since the couple was known to have disagreements whenever they imbibed liquor, he thought that they were having another quarrel, so at first he was not too keen to get out of his bed. β€œShe call and seh, β€˜come boy, open de door.’ When me open de door, me see she cover in blood and me nah know wha fuh do. Me put she fuh sit down and me go and me call dem other neighbour,” Ramkumar told this newspaper. He said the woman claimed that thieves had attacked them and her husband was lying dead on his bed. She was eventually rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by her 18-year-old son, Avinash, who had raced to the scene from Clonbrook several miles away after being informed about the tragedy. As news of the incident spread through the village, several residents who had already gotten out of their beds at the break of day, converged on the scene and began expressing views on how the couple lived. Kaieteur News learnt that Bharrat worked as a fisherman in neighbouring Suriname and would spend months away from his home, leaving his wife and two teenage children. Relatives said that he recently returned home from a four-month stint at sea, with a substantial amount of money. According to the relatives, Bharrat’s absence resulted in his wife engaging in an affair with another villager, who they strongly believe was responsible for the attack.

The dead man’s sister-in-law, Lalita (his wife’s sister), told a tale of infidelity on the part of Ramdat. This caused the couple’s two children to move out and reside with her at Clonbrook. She said that while the brutal death of Bharrat was a shock, it was not unexpected. β€œThey were threatened…A boy name Errol did threaten de two children and dey father. De mother have an affair with dis boy,” Lalita said. She informed that the man had attacked them before, even pouring poison into a barrel that contained the water they had to consume. That matter was reported to the police. β€œIs he do dis! The night when he de come and threaten me and me father, he come with a cutlass and he threaten fuh kill me and me brother…He seh dat how he gon kill me and me father before de year done,” the dead man’s 17-year-old daughter Jasmattie Bharrat called β€˜Nikita,’ told this newspaper. Almost everyone at the scene blamed the woman’s affair for the incident. Even her sister, Lalita, had nothing good to say. β€œBecause of the threats, de children had to come away by me,” she said, adding that she even advised Bharrat to end his relationship with her sister for his own safety. As for the couple’s 18-year-old son, Avinash, his mother’s version of what transpired sounds a bit farfetched. He said that firstly, all the doors of the house were secured and there were no signs of forced entry. β€œShe tell me dat when de men dem come in, she couldn’t ah holler or do nothing, she just had to block de chops. She say dat de two men is two tall people,” Avinash Bharrat said. He too is convinced that his mother’s lover was responsible for his father’s death. β€œHe get people fuh do it. De last time he try fuh kill me father but he ain’t get through because he run away.” The young man believes that his mother’s lover had facilitated the killers by distracting the two dogs his father reared at the house. Neighbours said that they did not hear any barking from the dogs, although they usually made a lot of noise whenever strangers entered the yard. They believe that the man used food to lure the dogs away. β€œFuss thing, dem dog dis bad wha da man gat. Earlier he been at de shop and buy sardine and bread and milk and he feed dem dogs,” a neighbour told this newspaper. β€œWhenever she (Ramdat) drink and does cuss out, you does hear she voice till away so. How come you nah hear she holler when dem ah chop she?” another neighbour said. A close relative of the woman’s lover contacted this newspaper via telephone all the way from the United States of America and also expressed the belief that he was the mastermind. Bharrat was described as a very kind person who was very generous to his wife and children. But the same could not be said about his wife; even from her children. β€œLike me nah gat no feeling fuh she, she don’t even talk to we. She gat fuh talk de truth. If she nah talk de truth me nah know wha go happen,” her son said.

Quote "β€œThey were threatened…A boy name Errol did threaten de two children and dey father. De mother have an affair with dis boy,” Lalita said. She informed that the man had attacked them before, even pouring poison into a barrel that contained the water they had to consume. That matter was reported to the police. β€œIs he do dis!" unquote

Family finds Tuschen man’s death β€œfishy’

BY ALEXIS RODNEY

Dead: Keshova Das Rambharose

Dead: Keshova Das Rambharose

A Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) family has described as β€œfishy”, the mysterious death of their son, but they are optimistic that whomever is responsible, would soon be exposed.

Family members are hurting, not just because of the manner in which the young man died, but because such a death for him was unexpected. Last Wednesday, April 23, Keshova Das Rambharose, 21, left for work as a Sales Clerk at the Aaron Bacchus Store in Parika, EBE and according to his parents Indardeo and Hemwantie Rambharose, that was the last time they saw him alive.

β€œKasho”, as he was fondly called, was a β€œplayful, childish man”, Rambharose’s mother said. β€œHe would play with the chickens he reared, and even gave them names.”

And so when news came that the young man’s body was found in a koker near the Uitvlugt Seawall the following day, it was difficult for family members to digest.

According to the young man’s father, Keshova had called home sometime close to 19:00h last Wednesday evening to enquire from his mother what she had cooked that day and she told him. The father said that it was a normal practice for β€œKasho” to make such calls, however β€œhe told his mother that he was coming just now and that he would bring fry rice”.

Close to two hours later, Rambharose said they made contact again with their son, who then said that he was with β€œboss man”.  Rambharose said that he found it rather strange since it was unusual for his son to stay out that late. He said his son told them that he was going to a bar-b-que with the boss man and his family on the Tuschen Seawall.

The dead man’s mother said she tried to persuade him to come home instead, which he agreed. However, a few minutes later, using his boss’ phone, he called back and told them β€œme nah come and alyuh nah call me back, boss man go bring meh home”.

Keshova’s parents said they retired to bed, leaving the light on and the back door open for him.  But when the elder Rambharose woke sometime around 01:00h on Thursday, the light was still on while the door remained ajar, and there was no sign of β€œKasho”. He said several calls to his son’s mobile phone went to voice messaging centre.

He said, he tried again around 03:00h when he began preparing for work, but got the same response. The father said he called his wife from work around 19:00h on Thursday, then again at 09:00h, but his son had not returned. Rambharose said he did not think of it then, but it must be β€œfishy”, that his son’s boss Aaron Bacchus opted to take his wife to the sea wall instead of the police station as was advised.

According to Rambharose’s mother, she was taken by Bacchus to the sea wall β€œto make a search”. She said the search there yielded nothing. She was then taken to the police station where she was joined by her husband. Rambharose said after giving the statement to the Police, Bacchus insisted that they return to the sea wall. He said he enquired the reason for going to sea wall and he insisted it was to β€œsearch”.

Marks of violence

Rambharose said that he hopes that the Police would carry out a thorough investigation, since, although the post-mortem result declares that his son died from β€œdrowning”, the visible marks of violence on his face, neck and abdomen suggests otherwise.  The father said he is not pointing his finger at anyone, but he has a strong feeling who may be responsible for his son’s death. Rumours, he said, continue to be peddled in the community.

He said that based on information he received from his son’s boss, β€œKasho” had left the bar-b-que sometime after 10:00h to meet another colleague β€œSmithy”, so that they would go home together. According to the boss, he had given Rambharose $500 to take a taxi for home. But according to the family, the distance from the sea wall to Rambharose’s home would cost more than $500 with a taxi. He said the boss insisted that his son had left and had even called β€œSmithy” to inform him that β€œKasho” was coming out. But according to β€œSmithy”, his friend never met him, since he joined a bus, some 10 minutes after speaking to his boss.

Indardeo Rambharose said the family was again led to the Koker on Thursday, and this time, his son’s body was found at the mouth of the Koker, with his hands in the air. According to him, there were cuts on his mouth, while his abdomen, face and neck were discoloured.  They also found streaks of blood along the sea wall.

Keshova Das Rambharose was cremated last Friday.

Man killed execution-style in

Albouystown

By Romila Boodram

Up to press time, investigators were following leads as to who would blatantly walk into a crowded yard at Curtis Street, Albouystown at around 01:00hrs yesterday and gun down football player, Orvin Milton.
The 30-year-old North East La Penitence resident, who is a part-time taxi driver, was shot to the head by a lone gunman who escaped through Le Repentir Cemetery after discharging three rounds at his victim.
Milton collapsed and according to eyewitnesses, his brain was scattered on the muddy dam. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead.

Police in a press release said that Milton was in a yard at Albouystown when a man approached him and discharged a round which hit him to his body. The shooter then escaped.
Sources close to the investigation told this publication that they have the names of three persons who they believe might have had something to do with Milton’s death.
Asked whether the shooting could have been as a result of a deal went wrong, a police source said that investigators believe that vendetta is the possible motive.
At the scene yesterday, Kaieteur News was told that the father of four was drinking and playing a game of cards with a group of men when a man walked up behind him and said, β€œI looking for you (expletive) long” and opened fire.
A man who claims to be an eyewitness to the shooting opined that Milton met his death in a β€œjokey way.”
β€œEverybody thought it was a joke. This man (shooter) just walk up behind he dressed in a hoodie and mask, say those five words and shoot he. People thought it was a prank, because who would walk into a crowded yard and kill somebody and it’s not like there was more than one shooter to watch he (lone shooter’s) back. We thought it was somebody joking around with a mask” the eyewitness said.
At Milton’s home yesterday, his sister, Abby Weekes said that she was at her home when her mother telephoned her and asked if she heard what had happened to her brother.
β€œI said no and she said that my brother’s child mother called and tell her that Orvin get shoot and he was at the hospital so I asked her if she didn’t call him home early and she said that she called him at 12:45 hrs on Wednesday and asked when he coming home and he tell her that he coming just now and hang up,” the sister added.

Dead: Milton’s brother, Vibert Weekes

Dead: Milton’s brother, Vibert Weekes

She said that her mother informed her that about 20 minutes after she talked to her son, she received a call from his fiancΓ©e who informed her that her son was at the hospital.
β€œShe (her mother) come in a car and pick me up and then all of us went to the hospital. When we reach and went inside the room he was dead already,” Weekes recounted.
According to the woman, her brother who played football for Western Tigers was scheduled to play this coming Sunday. β€œHe supposed to play and now he dead.”
Family members of the dead man are calling on the police to solve this case, since the family received no justice when Milton’s brother, Vibert Weekes, was gunned down some four years ago.
Weekes was killed a short distance away from the popular β€œRed Dragon” night club on Robb Street on January 09, 2010 by a lone shooter who was reportedly dressed in female attire.
β€œWe got to get justice for Orvin because we got none for Vibert. The police need to do their work and ensure the suspect is captured,” Abby Weekes exclaimed.
Meanwhile, the recently launched β€œImpact Albouystown Project” came under some criticism yesterday with residents questioning, β€œWhy have 20 policemen walking during the days and none in the nights.”
According to one resident, β€œduring the day, when you look into the various streets in Albouystown, you seeing three to four policemen, and none of them can be seen in the nights.”
β€œDuring the day, you have petty crimes happening, but if you look back most people getting shoot during the nights, because most gambling and so happen when people come home from work,” the resident said.
Commander of β€˜A’ Division Clifton Hicken, during a brief telephone interview, said that police patrols were always present in the area during the nights but not on foot.
β€œWe always have police patrolling the area, but as of today (yesterday) we have put ranks to patrol the area on foot.”

Former boxer’s battered body found at

Ruimveldt

May 12, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

A father of seven was yesterday morning found dead on the Ruimveldt main road opposite DiDCO in what is suspected to be a hit and run accident. However, the lack of evidence to support this theory has left the family of 48-year-old Trevor Colin Bumbury awaiting a post mortem examination to determine the cause of the man’s demise. Bumbury’s younger brother, Ozah Edwards told Kaieteur News last evening that he was preparing for work yesterday morning when he received a call from an aunt asking him to make his way to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Edwards said that when he arrived there, he was told that his brother had been in an accident and was in an unconscious state. However, when Edwards saw his brother’s body, the man was already dead.
Edwards told this publication that he only saw injuries to his brother’s head, and there was nothing else to indicate that he had been hit by a vehicle or that he was involved in an accident. Edwards explained that his brother had a single wound to the back of the head. β€œThere was a hole at the back of his head where blood was coming out from. There was also a cut over his nose and his face was swollen as if he was lashed in the face.”

Trevor Colin Bumbury

Edwards said that in his opinion, his brother may have been attacked from behind by more than one person. He said his brother is a former boxer who was well built and could have β€œhandled himself.” The brother said however that he is unaware if anyone would have wanted to harm his older sibling.
Bumbury’s oldest son, Trevor Junior Edwards said he last saw his father around 04:00am yesterday morning when he was awakened by him as he left for work at the Meadow Bank wharf where he operated a small shop.  Young Edwards said his father was drinking with friends on Saturday evening and then went to bed before heading out to work.
The youngster said that about 07:00am the following day, he received a call from his ex-girlfriend who asked if it was true that his father had died. After making checks, the 19-year-old said he confirmed the information and made his way to the Public Hospital but was unable to see his dad.
Edwards said his father was an easygoing person and he too is unaware whether someone would have wanted to hurt him. He too is anxiously awaiting the post mortem results. Kaieteur News understands that Bumbury’s body was discovered by a police officer and he was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital

β€œPossessed” woman found dead in drain

May 19, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

A 43-year-old Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD) woman, who was reportedly β€œpossessed by spirits” for the past four days, was found dead early yesterday in a shallow drain a few houses away from her residence.
Dead is Marcel Cummings, a mother of five of Lot 183 Craig, EBD.
Her body was discovered in the drain around 06:00 hrs yesterday by villagers.
According to the dead woman’s brother, Ivor Cummings, since last Tuesday, his sister who works at the Pritipaul Singh Investments, started to behave in a really strange manner.

Dead: Marcel Cummings

Dead: Marcel Cummings

β€œShe was behaving as if she was possessed. She wasn’t sleeping in the nights, she just praying loud, loud and waking up the whole neighbourhood. She was stamping the floor and saying the β€˜Blood of Jesus is against you. Get out, Get out’.”
Ivor Cummings said that at first he did not think his sister was possessed because she was praying to Jesus and she called up all her friends and family members and prayed for them.
According to Cummings, his sister prayed for persons and pleaded with them to change their bad ways and welcome the Lord in their lives.
β€œWe couldn’t do anything because she wasn’t doing anything bad. She wasn’t cursing, she was just praying and her family members even prayed with her,” the brother stressed.
He explained that during the day his sister was normal- she cooked, cleaned and did everything a mother would do, but in the nights, she prayed continuously and chased β€œspirits” out of her yard.
Cummings said on one occasion his sister got up at 03:00hrs and was walking around in the yard with olive oil in her hands, chasing the β€œdemon” out.
β€œShe went into all the apartments and prayed for everyone. We even prayed with her. The next day, two pastors came to the house to pray with her and she was even praying more than the pastors, and louder,” Cummings said.
He added that his sister was involved in a triangular love affair and he has his suspicions.
β€œSince she started behaving like that, she kept saying that she was wrong to get involved with a married man and that Jesus has forgiven her for that.”
Cummings explained that a few hours after his sister left home for work on Saturday he received a call from one of her colleagues who informed him that his sister β€œtek in.”
β€œWhen I went to collect her, I see her lying on the floor with her hands stretched out and I could have seen that the other workers were scared of her. I put her in the car and take her home and she said that she see a lot of evil around her that is why she started praying at her work place.”
Cummings further added that when his sister reached home, she went up to her room and started to write in an exercise book.
β€œWhen the place got dark, she came downstairs and she asked my other sister to borrow a long electrical cord to take upstairs. She said that she has to complete her writing by (Saturday night). Later Saturday, we didn’t want to leave her alone so my sister slept with her and she said that Marcel blindfold her eyes and she was walking around in the room, praying.”
Cummings told Kaieteur News that a little before 06:00 hrs on Sunday when his sister woke up, she noticed Marcel was missing.
β€œShe went outside and saw a crowd and she thought that Marcel was β€œpossessed” again so she sent her son who discovered that his aunt was dead. We then went up to her room and when we read the book she wrote, it had her experience in Trinidad, her affair with a married man and it also had, if we miss her, we must check in the drain,” Cummings told this publication, acknowledging that his sister might have predicted the way she would die.
Marcel Cummings leaves to mourn her five children and five siblings.

Mother of four-month old stabbed to death by estranged partner

Onica Greaves Onica Greaves

The19-year old  mother of a four-month old baby was stabbed to death by her estranged 49-year old partner after she told him that she wanted to end the relationship, police and relatives said.
Onica Greaves was stabbed multiple times about her body Monday evening by Robert Stanley who is now fighting for his life after attempting suicide by drinking gramoxone. He is under police guard at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The incident occurred at Angoy’s Avenue/ Cow Dam, New Amsterdam. She was stabbed multiple times, resulting in damage to her heart, lungs and liver, police sources said.
Greaves met her death after she responded to Stanley’s request to return from Georgetown because the baby was sick. She had decided to go to Georgetown to eke out a living because, according to relatives, the part-time tradesman had not been providing sufficient financial support.
When she arrived at her mother’s home at Angoy’s Avenue, he told Greaves’ mother that the relationship had ended and that he would take care of the baby.
Abiola Greaves told reporters that she and her daughter eventually went to their bedroom and fed the baby. Moments later, Onica went to the standpipe to wash the feeding bottle when she heard her daughter screaming β€œOh God, ah dead, Randy going to kill me”.
It was only then that Mrs. Greaves said she realised that Stanley had been lurking in the yard. Stanley had maintained that he if he could not have had a relationship with her, no one else could.

Stanley and his previous wife, who died 18 years ago, have four children ages 18,21,23 and 25 years.
