We have had Syrians fleeing death, the same of Libyans etc, why have we not offered these more imperiled people sanctuary? Most of the people in the Caribbean affected are in British, American, Dutch or French territories and they will be amply supported in their rehabilitation.

Valid and focused point-of-view.

While a vast majority may not move to Guyana, surely many would take this opportunity to start a new life.

Guyana needs to start developing the interior. Giving everyone a plot of land in the interior is not a bad idea. Every Guyanese should be entitled to a small plot of land.

The reality is most of the interior lands, some 20k Sqm are native people lands. Minus the mountains and swamp we do not have much left to give away.

I will take that as a valid point. Then how about the rest of the empty land ? It is quite a disgrace that Guyanese cannot own a piece of land when we have an abundance to it.

The natives are bring robbed of their lands, Africans lost some of theirs and now many are left squatting. What a disgrace.

you obviously have not visited the interior. Most of it is seasonal swamp. We do not have much highlands. Even areas deemed highlands are barren wastelands with impoverished soil that could become deserts if humans decide to remove native species indiscriminately. Those who say we have lots of land are simply not thinking.  We have few people compared to un occupied areas but to occupy those places mean struggling with nature in ways we often cannot win as we see on the coast.

That's what you get when the experts on everything shoot their mouths off before loading their brains.

Dominicans are West Indians and we need to help them.

Yes they do.  Help in restoring clean water supply, electricity, road clearance, and in housing.  And in rebuilding/re-equipping the hospitals/schools.  In times past the GDF was sent to help in similar situations but now we hear this lazy and silly notion that land in the bush is a good idea.

How does offering them land in the interior  help?  Guyanese living in Guyana don't buy into that flawed premise so why will Islanders?

What I am not hearing much of is how Granger plans to help Guyanese stranded in places like St Maarten.   Assistance will be prioritized for Dutch citizens, meaning that Guyanese will have to scramble, unless they are Dutch citizens.

The hurricane-ravaged victims are not bush people to lose them in a jungle in Guyana. These people had better lives on these islands. Isn't there enough land on the coast to offer them?

Thank you.  Even Guyanese living in these places aren't returning to Guyana.  Caribbean Airlines airlifted some CARICOM citizens. Few of them were Guyanese even as 9,000 are alleged to live on St Maarten.

This idea is the usual silly thinking and mediocrity that we associate with Granger. He was all about the Jubilee in 2015. Then after that it was all about oil.

I have never heard of any sensible and well thought out idea out of the mouth of that man. One can only ponder about what he does all day.

Dominicans, who do farm, and most don't, have no idea how to farm in our interior conditions. Furthermore moving to the interior just means that their current condition of backwardness due to no power or clean water and telecommunications, just became permanent.

A Dominican who can afford to move to Guyana will prefer to spend that money to rebuild his home and rehabilitate his farm.  Its not as if Dominica hasn't had hurricanes before.  Two years ago Erika demolished that island and there was recovery.  The damage this time is more extreme so recovery will take longer. But recover they will, and in some swamp infested with malaria, labarias, and camoodies!
