Used tyres can kill. Especially with those poor roads in Guyana.

As for his comments on the budget: Jagdeo didn't manage to run the economy properly when he was in charge. That says it all basically.

Mr.T

The date of manufacture shows on the sidewall of a tire. In Canada a tire older than seven years old is considered dangerous. The tire starts to breakdown after this due to extreme weather.

I have this on my comp from a source I cannot recall, someone had sent me the info.

The DOT number goes to approx 12 alpha-numeric digits, could be less and it is shown on the side of the tire.

To find it, look for the letters "DOT" near the bead area. Next to that will be the tire ID numbers. An example I have right in front of me at the moment reads: DOT VN71 D16 2607. The "2607" at the end is the production date. 26th week of 2007.

As far as aging goes, this has been an ongoing debate in the tire industry for the last several years. Several vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing tires after 10 years but the tire industry has not been able to collect enough data to agree on a standard.

My tyres cost around U$200 each (they are performance tyres), but irrespective of if they are worn down or not I change them within every three years. I used to drive on the motorway to work for close to 25 years. In that time I saw many accidents that were due to tyres exploding. I certainly wouldn't trust a 7 year old tyre.

Mr.T

If I ride the 400 highways here daily I'd do the same, for the price it's worth your life. I also use winter tYres even though they try to sell those awful all season crap to people and soon as -7 hit, dem tYres does start breakdown with no gripping power. I have an ole Benz that's rear wheel drive and no way I'm taking chances in winter bussin up my car.

Hey Cain, you have to learn to drive on the winter roads. Lived in northern Canada for over 35 years and used solely all season tyres. Earlier, it was rear wheel drive and later front wheel drive.

New tyres are expensive here in Guyana. 4 new tyres cost me $300000 last year.

Been driving in Canada for about 38 years never used winter tires until this car, Insurance is a bit lower and the stopping distance sure is less than the best all season/weather tire. I wanna keep this car for a long time, do some work on it as a collector's.
