Military ties to local telecoms investors…. This presents ominous implications – Dr. Roopnaraine

The fact that the two Chinese companies that are heavily investing in Guyana’s telecommunications industry both share links with the Chinese military namely the Peoples Liberation Army, is a very ominous revelation. This is according to A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Parliamentarian Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, who was at the time responding to reports that the Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Group, which has bought 20 per cent of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) and Huawei Technologies Ltd which is installing the Government’s LTE state-of-the-art telecommunication network, both have links to the Peoples Liberation Army.

Moments before the APNU frontbencher delivered his presentation to the 2012 Budget debates, he told this publication that in light of the revelation, the coalition of parties will be placing the issue under greater scrutiny. Datang and Huawei had raised eyebrows in October, 2011 when a US Pentagon report fingered both companies as being linked to the Chinese Military as well as a Chinese Government ‘Espionage’ Ministry.

 See Washington Times report http://www.washingtontimes.com...y-ministry/?page=all

According to a 2011 Washington Times Publication, “A U.S. intelligence report for the first time links China’s largest telecommunications company (Huawei Technologies Ltd.) to Beijing’s KGB-like intelligence service and says the company recently received nearly a quarter-billion dollars from the Chinese government.” At the time of the report the Huawei Technologies Ltd was attempting to break into the US market and had been blocked on three previous occasions. The revelation that the two Chinese companies are linked to the PLA, coupled with the fact that there has been a deafening silence on Guyana’s own Intelligence Agency, Dr Roopnaraine said, “has brought to mind some fairly ominous implications.” He said that greater attention must be paid to the due diligence of the companies, “and to see to what extent they represent in any way a threat to Guyana’s security and sovereignty.

We should check it out.” Dr. Roopnaraine downplayed any concerns of an ideological tandem with the Guyanese politicians in the seat of power, many of whom are Russian-trained with the Chinese Communist practices. “It has to do less with any affinity to their Communist ideology and more to do with the fact that we are like a lot of developing countries now, essentially the victims of a new kind of Chinese imperialism. We are seeing it in Africa, we are seeing it in Latin America, and we are certainly seeing it in Guyana.

As it relates to Huawei Technologies Ltd which the government has engaged to undertake the establishment of an LTE network and is currently expending more than US$40M, Britain’s domestic intelligence service, MI-5 had warned that equipment installed by Huawei in British Telecom’s networks could be used to disrupt critical services like power and transportation.”

That is why Jagdeo was almost the recipient of a prolonged anal probe in his recent detention at  an airport. The PPP are deliberately putting Chinese intelligence on a high speed fiber optic cable in out backyard. Parliament has the ability to stop this sale and the Opposition need not simply sit back and let them be railroaded into accepting secret deals from the PPP.

You and the PPP crime family might want us as slaves to the Chinese as in west africa but I do not. You see the collusion between these people and the PPP crime network the rape of Amerindian children, their drug trawlers, people smuggling, preferential, contracting etc. It is one reason the PPP will lose more deeply next time. They are turning us into a Bird Antigua or a Suharto Indonesia or a Marcos Philippines

The US, Canada and GB are not investing in Guyana, only the Chinese. Why begrudge them? The US is in hunker down mode as it is too busy paying for ill conceived wars and declining income from tax payers. Were it US companies investing in Guyana many of you critics would have been speaking out of the other side of your mouths. ahahaha

The US and Canada are responsible for 90% of out funding directly or indirectly. Canada has been instrumental is funding our elections.

The Chinese  on the other hand give us nothing but have a usurious financial clause that  guarantee return on their funding for the falls project. They stand to make money on building and funding the project. Theirs is a moneyy making scheme 100 percent. Indirectly, through the WB etc the US is also there and we expect those to be soft loans. The Chinese will never forgo their loans. The others always do.

If we had our sugar industry under good management and not the dunces in office we could have made a mint in the recent sugar spike of a few years ago. 200 million in that white elephant dumped on us by the Chinese ( who accept a flawed machine from a vendor?) we wont need to borrow the same from them again.

Nonsense, can you substantiate that claim? China is stepping up where the US and CA decline. Guyana needs all the help it can get and China is not exactly Al Queida so there is no moral conflict. They are just a means to an end.  We should not be refusing help.

I do not give a damn if you believe what I stated above or not. I am not here to convince you since you are possessed of that willful ignorance that cannot be sublimated  by facts. Canada and USAID have been instrumental in fundingand preserving our democracy. You Can research that at your own convenience since I would not waste my time with you.

I will say with no compunction that the Chinese are an infection one would do well not to invite.

In essence, you can not prove your claims, so why bother making statements that you can not support? That is the measure of a charlatan. The US and Canada may have helped in the past but currently their aid is vastly diminished to Guyana and China is stepping up. So let us thank the US and CA for their past aid and welcome China's support as the rest of the 3rd world is doing now.  Remember China is repeating the same actions all over the world, it is just not Guyana.

It is not worth the effort because the evidence to that effect is as transparent as to why the PPP is in office. The fact that we never balanced our budget on earnings but on international benefaction ( Chinese no where in the Picture) also ough to tell you we depend heavily oin the west for our resources. Only recently as last December they got some 217 K from USAID for to secure our electoral process.

I care little what the Chinese do habitually elsewhere since I cannot help that. I, however, care they do not do see us as a resource prey and leech off of us   because that is what the do procedurally.

All that stands between us and them is prudent government. I do not think the PPP has been prudent to this point by letting them dump a broken factory on us thus ruining an industry. I do not want them in our forests or in our IT or in our transportation infrastructure. Plain and simply they are predatory  and and our dealings with them ought to be with that in mind.
