GCB’s U-17 Inter-County starts tomorrow

The 2018 Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) 50-over Under-17 Inter-County cricket tournament commences tomorrow at the Lusignan ground on the East Coast of Demerara and the Bourda ground in the City from 09:30hrs.
Defending champions Berbice, face-off with the GCB Select Under-15 team at Bourda, while Demerara come up against Essequibo at Lusignan in the scheduled matches.

The competition continues on Friday when Berbice clash with Demerara at Bourda and Essequibo battle the U-15s at Lusignan and concludes on Sunday with the U-15s opposing Demerara at Bourda and Berbice playing Essequibo at Everest. The team with the most points will be declared the winner.
The reigning Champs will be led by National U-17 player Jevon Schultz and includes Seon Glasgow, who also played in last year’s team, while National U-15 Captain Marvin Persaud along with his Guyana U-15 team mates Gourav Ramesh and Saif Amoi will also play in their second U-17 competition but first for Berbice.
Berbice include a number of Berbice U-15 players and will start as favorites when they take on the GCB U-15s select side.
GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie explained that the U-15 squad’s involvement in this tournament is a part of their preparations for the Regional U-17 Tournament set for the Easter vacation.
“This will be an important tournament not only for the under-17 players but also for the Under-15s since the selectors will be picking 14 players from this 20-member squad to represent Guyana in Jamaica,” Sanasie explained.
Sanasie informed that the National youth selectors (Nazimul Drepaul, Julian Moore and Otto Brian Christiani) will select a training squad for this year’s Regional U-17 competition in Trinidad during the July/August School vacation.
Demerara will be led by West Indies U-16 Skipper Sachin Singh and include Navendra Persaud, Garrick Persaud, Hemnauth Dindyal, Dwayne Dick and Andre Seepersaud.
The Essequibo team was selected after two trial matches before the team had two practice matches at the Imam Bacchus ground, while a three day Camp was held on the Essequibo Coast.
The side from Guyana’s largest County includes two players who played last year in National U-17 player Lance Roberts, who Captains the team and former Essequibo Skipper Sheldon Charles.
