Magistrate discharges fraud charges against McLean, Ramlal
OCTOBER 8, 2011 | BY KNEWS | FILED UNDER NEWS

Former Major General of the Guyana Defence Force, Norman Mc Lean, and former Registrar of the High Court, Sita Ramlal had all forgery charge against them discharged on Thursday by Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions still had the file. There was no indication as to when the file would have been transferred to Assistant Superintendent Denise Griffith, who was prosecuting the matter.

The magistrate was then forced to discharge the case for want of prosecution, since the prosecution was unable to start the case even after several adjournments. Ramlal and Major General (Ret’d) Mc Lean were charged in 2009 for allegedly forging adoption papers.

On Thursday Magistrate Azeez stated his reasons for his dismissal of the case. According to the magistrate there was insufficient evidence provided to the court to prove that there was a conspiracy involving the defendants.

The court was forced to uphold no case submissions by the lawyers for the two defendants.

The preliminary inquiry lasted almost two years, with 15 witnesses being called to give evidence.

Yesterday, as the matter was dismissed, all of the lawyers who represented the two were present in court. They included Nigel Hughes, Senior Counsel Rex Mc Kay, Edward Luckhoo and Keith Massiah

Nigel Hughes is a lawyer, it is amazing to watch donuts complain about who lawyers defend. It is not their job to judge their clients that is for the court to do.

Lawyers who are democrats in the US defend criminals all the time you never see people criticizing the lawyer for doing his job if he did a poor job then he would get a shellacking.

Same for republicans and independents. You have a poor poor argument bgurd. I dont see anyone criticizing nandalall when he was working for vic puran defending all the drug dealers?

Dem AFC bai gon look de adda way once legal fees coming in. No matter from who. Big Grin

McLean/Ramlal's 'dream team' defense is not the issue; Messrs Hughes, McKay, Luckhoo & Massiah are doing their jobs honorably in the finest traditions of their profession.

You so-called 'educated' people need to look up the role of LAWYER in Western jurisprudence and give yourselves a proper 'education' . . . it seems necessary.

After you’ve done that, maybe you’ll stop playing the FOOL and recognize how the dispensation of justice in Guyana (under LAW) has become a grotesque caricature in the hands of Jagdeo’s crude and unpatriotic band of apparatchiks/law destroyers . . . see 'Exhibit A' (in bold) below.

When Buddy got off because the prosecution failed to make the case that diesel was a petroleum product I thought I had heard it all. This takes the prize. There is not even the pretense of favoritism. They simply ignore their primary obligation to enforce the laws of the state. The PPP is not as bad as the PNC. They make the PNC look like they were playing in a sand box. These are well honed professional crooks who take their jobs as criminals very seriously.

I will say this and say it loudly again, WE IN THE PPP HAVE TO TAKE OUR BLINDERS OFF AND FACE REALITY, the PPP has failed us across the board without question.
