First Lady launches workshop to help women – in marketing their entrepreneurial skills

FIRST Lady Mrs. Sandra Granger yesterday launched a business/entrepreneurship workshop at the Good Hope Learning Centre for a group of women in that community. The workshop is being conducted by Mr. Wayne Barrow from Interweave Solutions.Interweave Solutions is a non-governmental organisation that helps local organisations and congregations in developing countries to create self-reliance by providing them with the necessary training to implement and promote their own business plans.

The First Lady explained that this model that is being used has been tried and tested by Interweave Solutions and proven to be successful in places such as Africa, and parts of Central America and South America. The aim is to empower rural women and teach them to manage and sustain their small entrepreneurial ventures.

Mrs. Granger said, “A lot of our women don’t realise that they do have skills that they can market and be successful entrepreneurs.” She noted that programmes such as this could unlock the potential of women across Guyana. “We are trying this programme here, we want to encourage the women and empower them so that they use their skills and learn to be successful and make some money in the process,” the First Lady said.

The programme which is being funded by the Office of the First Lady is also expected to be launched in Linden shortly and based on the outcomes, it will then be expanded to other communities across the country.

A similar workshop was held at Red House a few years ago, I am not sure what became of the result.

This program can tie in well with a craft catalog we published for four Mayan Women of Dignity  coops in Chiapas, in order to sell their crafts in North American and Europe.

Baseman, bai the new government is not a total failure. Me know dat building would prosper, because its led by one of the most compassionate ladies around. [Sandra/Sandra].

A small world indeed Django. I have to mention it to her next time we meet.

I suggest she do an annual fundraising report with photos as we do, its been very successful.

Years ago Base made the intro and we support each other well with our programs.
