Dynamic Airways to suspend Guyana operations

Travel agents have reported that late last week they noticed that all of the Dynamic Airways flights for the remainder of the year were cancelled out.

Dynamic Airways to suspend Guyana operations

Faced with a bankruptcy move and lawsuits that could see it being forced to sell off some of its assets to meet debts, Dynamic Airways is preparing to suspend its operations to Guyana and pull out of the market completely.

The move could come as early as next week and could put a dent in the local travel market.

Already, some travel agencies have stopped selling tickets for the airline, while others have indicated that they are yet to be officially informed of the move, but have stopped selling tickets as a precaution.

Local representative for Dynamic Airways, Captain Gerry Gouveia, told News Source on Monday that the operations are likely to be suspended within days,  but he intends to meet with officials of the U.S based company to get a clearer understanding of its longterm plans.

Travel agents have reported that late last week they noticed that all of the Dynamic Airways flights for the remainder of the year were cancelled out.

The airline has not informed agents as yet as to how it intends to transfer those passengers who would have already booked and paid for their flights, to other airlines.

Back in July,  Dynamic announced that it had filed a voluntary Chapter 11 petition with the United States Bankruptcy Court.

At the time, the airline said it planned to continue β€œnormal operations”.

According to a statement from the airline, its decision to file bankruptcy followed litigation matters resulting from Hajj flights that it operated in 2014 for Air India.

But just a month after that bankruptcy move, one of the airline’s top unsecured creditor moved to the US Courts to force the airline into liquidating its assets.

The creditor, PMC Aviation LLC of Greensboro, North Carolina, is owed US$1.19 million, which represents an arbitration judgment reached in April 2017.

This will not be the first time that Dynamic Airways will be suspending its Guyana operations. After a shaky start in 2014, the airline suspended its operations for four months.

It returned and started to offer as many as five flights per week and that frequency climbed in the peak seasons. This latest suspension move comes at a time when the airline is operating five weekly flights and is enjoying a 90% load rate.

Captain Gerry Gouveia believes that the suspension could have a major impact on travel to Guyana during the upcoming Christmas peak season.

The other airlines which offer services to the United States from Guyana are Caribbean Airlines, Fly Jamaica, Suriname Airways and Copa Airlines.

This was another fly by night that the PPP brought to Guyana.

Good riddance . They caused the travelers to Guyana too much pain.

The Govt of Guyana should have closed them down a while ago but I am guessing that they saw the writing on the wall and allowed them to dies a slow death.

Some one here promoted Eastern Airlines which disappeared quietly. I await to see what new ideas he brings up.

At the end of the day BWIA/Caribbean Airlines has been cussed out and reviled by many Guyanese but once again will come to the rescue.  I remember in the 80s when all the big carriers deserted Guyana because they couldn't get foreign exchange out it was the faithful BWee that continued to fly to Guyana.

the first of many fly by nights that collapsed stranding hundreds.

The new runway should be completed soon and at that point Guyana should solicit JetBlue to fly from JFK.

I don't know why Guyanese insist that we should have a national airline.  If the DR and Jamaica don't have one then why should Guyana?  One plane airlines don't work.

Let Fly Jamaica be the national carrier if you insist, but Guyana will have to get Cat 1 FAA status before they can fly unlimited nonstop flights to NYC.  Surinam Airways is also interested in flying to NYC from GEO.

Nonsense, the PPP never owned any airline. It was owned by the people of Guyana, inherited as a failure from the PNC and divested by the PPP in an effort to free govt from the shackles of an unprofitable airline.  Now run along and confer with slop can boy to get better talking points.

During the 1980’s, Guyana Airways Corporation’s Domestic operations decreased for some reasons such as the unrealistically low fares that was required and the lack of access to foreign exchange for imported aircraft parts and other requirements.  Due to this, the private sector started to fill the gap and by 1991 the three major domestic charter operators emerged. While this was happening, the Guyana Airways Corporation’s domestic service continued to decline, which by 1993, only owned the Twin Otter DHC-6 to service the entire country. With the new management system it was revived and returned to its original domestic role with new schedule routes and the addition of two new aircraft Shorts Skyvan SC7 and a second Twin Otter DHC-6

Your memory seems very different from my recollection.  GAC was a one plane carrier with frequent cancelations.  People had to listen to the radio to find out whether their flight was canceled.  Yes another PPP failure.

I used it in 87, 88, 89 & 92 and enjoyed every flight. The trouble only came when we had to go through immigration and customs but GAC wasn't responsible for that. I didn't like BWIA because it stopped all over the place before it got to Timehri. GAC was non-stop which made it more attractive to me. I haven't been back to Guyana since 1998 so I can't comment on CA.

Guyana Airways. In May 1966, Guyana became an independent nation. The airline leased all of its aircraft, which resulted in many different aircraft types being flown during the airline's existence. The airline was headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana. After the airline went bankrupt in 2001, its successor, Guyana Air 2000 maintained a short-lived operation until 2003 when it also filed for insolvency.

And the PPP could have turned around GAC especially as travel into Guyana had begun to increase due to the Hoyte reforms and GAC was the only carrier then with nonstop flights from JFK and Toronto.

The PPP didn't divest it. THEY SHUT IT DOWN.  GAC owed so much money that they didn't pay for the lease and the plane was repossessed plus the owed landing fees all over the place.

In fact GAC was such a tragedy under the PPP that Curacao barred it from flying there for safety considerations.  This because the planes were always breaking down.  When GAC collapsed there were many stranded Guyanese, who never received a refund of their fares or compensation for having to buy new tickets on BWIA.

Now I find it interesting that you and the rest of your cohort called Fly Jamaica the "PNC airline" when they don't own it. And you referred to one of the recent Guyanese owned fly by nights as an AFC airline.

Lies, it was almost defunct by the time the PPP inherited it. You pnc soupies will rewrite history as it suits your needs.

The PPP assumed office in 1992. GAC collapsed in 1999.  YOU in fact are the liar. The PPP had several years to fix whatever problem they inherited but the PPP used to fly those planes as if there were their private jets. Didn't maintain them properly so they were breaking down. People abandoned GAC using BWee, even though it meant going through Trinidad.

GAC ran out of cash!  Take your lies to your Indo KKK encampment.

It must be only in your mind that when GAC went bankrupt nearly a decade after Hoyte was no longer President, travel was still picking up because of the Hoyte reforms. Hoyte was voted out in 1992 and GAC collapsed in 1999.  Its pure PPP idiocy to blame the PNC for its collapse when they had over 6 years to turn it around. And yes the end of Guylines, thanks to Hoyte liberalizing the economy led to more overseas based Guyanese returning home on visits.

GA 2000 replaced GAC in late 1999 and collapsed in early 2001.

Hoyte's reforms began around 1989.  The Burnhamist faction led by Greene and Viola Burnham had the upper hand within the PNC and so blocked the moderate element led by Hoyte. When the WB and the IMF said reform or else Hoyte was able to implement his reforms.

Even an Indo KKK idiot like you will know that these reforms did two things.  Guyana's decline ended and the country began to see significant growth.  Secondly your communist Janet was blocked for turning Guyana into a Cuba.  If Burnham's idiocy was still intact that is exactly what she would have done.  In fact the PPP until recently was still screaming that it was a Marxist Leninist party.

If Jagdeo/Ramotar was so great why did the PPP lose the majority of the votes in 2011 and lost entirely in 2015?

You also know fully well that elections in Guyana are a mere exercise in ethnic voting.  Its the drastic drop in the Indian voting age population from over 50% in 1992 down to around 45% by 2015 that made it easier to beat the PPP.   If Guyana had an African/mixed voting age majority the PPP would have definitely lost the 2001 elections and most likely the 1997 elections as well.  Likely they wouldn't have lost the 1992 elections either.

And yes Hoyte left Guysuco in better shape in 1992 than the PPP left it in 2015.  Production in 1992 was HIGHER than it was in 2014, despite the massive investment by the PPP into the Skeldon factory.

You are entitled to your opinions but your Indo KKK lies will be rebutted once I am posting on GNI.

Homme,

This is what siri found:

One of the black ghetto areas of Miami where a lot of drug dealing, prostitution, gang violence, and killings happen. Also one of the areas that you don't want to be in at night riding around or walking with anything expensive, even during the day time.
A boy got robbed in broad daylight, two men got killed during broad daylight, a bus got pelted with rocks at night and on that same night a girl got raped. All of these cases are unsolved and no witnesses have stepped forward as of yet. All of this happened in the projects of Liberty City known as PSU.

Are you really Guyanese?  Now tell me if Africans and mixed were 50% of the voters in 1997 and 2001 would the PPP have won?  I don't think so.

Elections in Guyana are ethnic censuses.  Not objective selections by the population.  Its no coincidence why the PPP failed to win the majority of the votes in 2011 and in 2015 as the Indian voting population has declined.

Did I ever state that there was an Indian ghetto in the USA.   I do know that you are still to point out an Afro Guyanese ghetto in the USA.  You ended up meandering into all sorts of places in your haste to put Afro Guyanese in a poor light when the evidence is that they do no worse as immigrants in the USA as do Indo Guyanese.

Btw I told Keffer exactly how Jagdeo used coded language to incite hatred directed towards Afro Guyanese. And in fact Ramrattan also discussed this when Jagdeo ran up to Queens to scream that "we gun tek back Guyana for us" this after defining "us" to mean the PPP support base which he defined as rural Indian. He told Indians and Amerindians that if they allowed the PNC to win the GDF and the police would rape and kill them.  You know full well that he used coded language to mean black.

We have Jagdeo and Rohee describing the PPP as a "coolie people party" and Jagdeo boasting how well he did among Indo Guyanese in the local government elections and how he didn't bother to campaign among non Indians.  This after record turn out by black and mixed voters in G/T, Linden and Bartica cost him the last election.

And the evidence is that Jagdeo left black bauxite workers to starve.

You will scream that this isn't proof just as you screamed that the PPP wasn't racist when it selected Indians to head up almost all of the gov't corporations and overseas heads of mission under Jagdeo.

Note that Jagdeo sued Freddie Kissoon for calling him a black hating institutional racist. When Kissoon and Nigel Hughes furnished proof that he was Luncheon couldn't refute. When asked why he whimpered that maybe blacks weren't qualified.

Jagdeo ended up dropping the law suit. Jagdeo couldn't defend himself against charges that he is a black hating institutional racist.
