Dr. Jagdeo in younger days.

Prince,

BJ is no Dr.,

honorary degrees don't count.

Honorary degree

The honoris causa doctorate received by Jimmy Wales from the University of Maastricht (2015)

An honorary degree,[1] in Latin a degree honoris causa ("for the sake of the honor") or ad honorem ("to the honor"), is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived the usual requirements, such as matriculation, residence, a dissertation and the passing of comprehensive examinations. The degree is typically a doctorate or, less commonly, a master's degree, and may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution[2] or no previous postsecondary education. An example of identifying a recipient of this award is as follows: Doctorate in Business Administration (Hon. Causa).

The degree is often conferred as a way of honouring a distinguished visitor's contributions to a specific field or to society in general.[3]

It is sometimes recommended that such degrees be listed in one's CV as an award, and not in the education section.[4] With regard to the use of this honorific, the policies of institutions of higher education generally[citation needed] ask that recipients "refrain from adopting the misleading title"[5] and that a recipient of an honorary doctorate should restrict the use of the title "Dr" before their name to any engagement with the institution of higher education in question and not within the broader community.[6] Rev. Theodore Hesburgh held the record for most honorary degrees, having been awarded 150 during his lifetime.[7]

In May 2017, Israel's Bar-Ilan University has issued an honorary degree to Magen David Adom, which is an Institute (rather than a person).[8]

Regardless what you and the rest of your PNC boys think of Jagdeo, he has done more for the Guyanese people than all the PNC combined. You people preach that Jagdeo and the PPP stole money and got rich. You don't look in your own backyard and saw that the PNC bankrupted Guyana and emptied the treasury. You do not acknowledge Harmunjah's goady hanging with the $5 Mil(USD). You do not acknowledge your PNC boys sporting up, living in luxury, vacationing overseas at the taxpayers' expense. You do not see the 50% raises and luxurious living of the corrupted and criminal PNC crd carrying members. As a card carrying member, do you enjoy any of these perks?????

Skelly, these guys are starting to piss me off. Many newspapers also mention Jagdeo as (DR). Whether the man is Dr or not, he has more qualification than many of these quacks that underrate him.

That photo was taken around the time Jagdeo was working for Desmond Hoyte in the state planning department. He couldn't land a job in the private sector which was not impressed with him. At that time he didn't possess a honorary PhD to impress people. Hoyte hired him and that where he started to hone his deceptive skills .

He just "helped" Indians so much that they were forced into semi slavery in Trinidad, where some even were beaten up when they attempted to collect their pay.  Reduced to scrubbing toilets in islands like Barbados and Nevis, in both living in chattel houses abandoned by the locals.

Yes as the Corentyne coast emptied out with PPP supporters fleeing to live on volcanic peaks and coral reefs.  In fact the Guyanese population in Barbados exploded after 2000.

Skelly de man an egotist. What he has today could not have been done on his paycheck. The 50% raise is justified to fill the gap between his paycheck. Still there is room to catch up. Jagdeo set the bench mark. He earns more than Obama. It has not been proven that Harmon is in receipt of the $5Mil.

All politicians are scoundrels. They all want the power to fill their pockets. During the PNC days, there was a mayor in Corriverton who built a mansion bigger than anything around. Where did he get that money? Remember Sydney Jackman? The dunce who was admiring Sobers' strokes that he failed to stump him out? He was a rich mayor too. All the rice board bastards were leeches too. PNC, PPP, APNU, AFC, name their leaders and associates and you can see greed and blood coming out of their eyes.

Yeah! I hear you. Most of the coolies joined their families in North America. Those who did not have relatives here ran away from starvation under the PNC. I need to remind you...Corentyne/Berbice have blacks in Whim, Rosehall, #51 village and other places along the roadside living in cardboard boxes.

The Corentyne is the most Indian part of Guyana so any change in population largely reflects what that Indian population is doing.

In 1980 152k people lived in region 6, dropping to 142k by 1991.  It was a scant 109k by 2012.  MORE people fled under the PPP.  BTW New Amsterdam's population remained flat.

This is incorrect, people didn't flee, they left for better opportunities in the US and Canada due to their sponsorship papers which were filed under the PNC regime, finally being approved.  Even with the best Govt in the Guyana, people will still migrate due to the nature of the economy there.

He did not attend UG or any high schools in Georgetown.  Wait, the way you talk about him, I always thought you knew him well.

Bibi, there was no sarcasm in my question. I wanted to know his qualifications as Guyana president. I met him a few times at the OP when I visited the late Gossai.  I believe his qualifications might be linked to Russia, but I am not sure.

You  might know him better than I do.  I know about him from his actions as the president and how some people responded to his policies.

He did study in Russia and speaks Russian well.  I have known him my entire life, that is why when people who don't know him spread lies and gossip, it grates my nerves.

Thanks for sharing that personal information. I don't  want this to be a negative discussion.

My issue with  the Jagdeo administration was seeing  the negative result of his representatives  actions and non action, regarding people who voted for the PPP. I was  surprised at the people's anger.

Jagdeo might not have been directly involved, but  he was aware of it based on what the people told him [in my presence] and he did nothing to change or improve the situation.

As we are all seeing now with the coalition govt, Guyana is suffering from brain drain and lack of talent.  An issue which affects both the PPP and PNC govt.  And we have to understand that not everyone who shows up at govt door to ask for a favor will get it.  Many who didn't get favors accused the govt of favoritism.   A lot of those guys in the AFC are the ones who didn't get their way with the PPP govt.  Now they can't their way with the PNC govt and they are looking to form a new party called RISE.

Again Bibi, thanks for no negativism.

This discussion is about Jagdeo and not the present government, but  I agree with you that the present government is no better for Indians in Guyana. I also suspect in time Granger might treat the AFC, as Burnham treated the UF.

Our contact in the last government were Gossai and Ramsammy,  who chaired  the National Suicide Prevention Committee.

We had enough resources from Scotia bank, Caribbean Airlines, Air Canada, Telus Canada and individual support.  Our work was done through the Canadian High Commissioner, who also provided some support  and who visited us often. We never asked for [or got] any resources  from the PPP government [or the present government]. All we needed was their logistic support for things to run smoothly.

Even though we did not get any logistics support from local government officials in the past, they made demands for our resources. When it was not provided, they told schools and medical centres not to deal with us, or else.

As committee members who provided  our time and personal resources [to travel and live] in  providing  a service with no government support, this was difficult  to understand.

In other countries where we implemented programs and built projects, the people and government officials were all over us to help, but PPP officials were different.

Since you have known Jagdeo all your life, maybe you can shed some light on the reason. Beceuse he was the leader of these officials,  who took directions from him.
