Digicel Schools Football Championships… Champs Charity roar into national playoffs with 11-0 drubbing of NOC

Defending Region 2 champions, Charity Secondary School, showed little mercy on the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) after inflicting a crushing 11-0 win yesterday at the Ana Regina Community Centre ground in Essequibo.
Playing in the regional final of the Digicel Schools Football Championship, before a sprinkling of fans, the reigning seven-time champions hit the ground running and got on the score-sheet after just seven minutes when Ariel Chester’s curling corner taken from the left side evaded one defender and the opposing goalkeeper, before landing in the back of the goal.
One minute later, Lindon Daniels made it 2-0 when he raced on to a pass from just outside the penalty area to fire into the far corner.
Not even a change of goalkeepers could curtail the rampaging Charity frontline and Gavin Duke, who netted four goals, entered the fray in the 17th minute when his searing free kick from about 35 metres out tipped a jumping NOC custodian, before nestling in the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The agony continued for NOC following an enchanting sequence of passes that culminated with a clinical finish from Stephon Clarke in the 22nd minute of play.
Duke returned in the 32nd minute to net his second, courtesy of a penalty kick subsequent to a handle ball in the ‘red zone’.
It became 6-0 at the break when Daniels netted his second as Charity took a clearly unassailable lead to lemon time.
The final period brought no stay of execution for the hapless NOC unit as Charity fired in five more goals to wrap up a convincing win and confirm another trip to the national playoffs where they await the Region 1 winners.
Meanwhile, over at the Wisburg ground in Linden, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary beat Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 5-0.
On target for the winners were Jehu Regis-13th and 65th, Darwin Adolphus-25th, Omar Brewley-45th and Jermaine Mason-68th.
