Cheap Chinese kites should be discouraged. As a kid, building kites with my dad was a great experience.  

We planned how we wanted it to look and sound. We built one for each of us and each person chose their color. It was great building out then reveal on Easter Monday if our design panned out.  

Guyanese kids should engage in designing and building kites, not buying a cheap Chinese plastic version.   That must be so boring after 30 mins.

One Easter, I made some 30 2' kites to give out to my siblings, other families and some neighbors. And while I had a plane, I did not have a good saw so I stripped the 1x3 softwood with a cutlass and then planed it down to make the frames. It wasn't an easy task but it was very satisfying.

What do cheap Chinese kites have to do with them building infrastructure in the country, anyway? Half the time, those kites do not fly properly. I'd rather fly a hand made local kite than that Chinese crap. Also, it might teach the children life lessons that the locally made products are as good as or even better than the cheap Chinese junk.

Agreed, the biggest blunder by Jagdeo. I still cannot understand why there was no Warranty clause on the contract and why the Chinese Govt was not approached to sanction the Company involved. In fact, I believe it would be wise to argue for the cancellation of the loan for the Skeldon Factory.
