Insaf Ka Tarazu was a great movie. Raj Babbar did such a great job as the rapist that I disliked him immediately Padmini Kolapure did a terrific job in this movie too.

Insaaf Ka Taraazu

The film was notoriously synonymous with rape. Apparently an anti-rape film, it has one of the most explicit rape scenes ever in Hindi cinema. Zeenat Aman plays a model and a beauty queen. Raj Babbar plays a rich guy who tries to woo her and ultimately rapes her. He later rapes her sister played by Padmini Kolhapure. Remake of the Hollywood flick Lipstick , the film lived up to the original in recreating the realism of rape.

Audiences had condemned the rape scenes as they were extremely graphic and bordering on titillation. The premise of the director was to show a realistic rape scene in all its crudity. A half-naked, battered Zeenat Aman featured prominently on the publicity material. The scenes were gruesome and the helplessness of the victims was mortifying. For some, Raj Babbar’s image has been permanently etched as a rapist villain in their minds.

Zeenat Aman, Raj Babbar Back Together After 29 Years

Yesteryears heartthrob Zeenat Aman and actor Raj Babbar will be seen together for the first time after Insaaf Ka Tarazu was made in 1980. They will be now be seen together in Raja Bundela's Dil To Diwana Hai.


Speaking about her role, Zeenat said that when she was approached for the role by Raja she thought it would be interesting to work with Raj Babbar again. The last time that they had worked together in BR Chopra's Insaaf Ka Tarazu, he had played a rapist, and she had played his victim who finally hauls him befire the law and get justice.. In Bundela's film, Zeenat plays mother to Hyder Ali, Aamir Khan's brother, while Babbar plays father to Sadaa, a newcomer to Hindi films. Dil To Diwana Hai explores the changing mentality of the new generation, their attitude towards family values and traditions. The film will roll out in May this year. The other members of the cast include Alok Nath and Sushmita Mukherjee. The music has been composed by Anand Raj Anand.

I watched Dostana this weekend...not sure if it was on the B4U or Omni....I was watching that and another movie at the same time lol ..not bad...my cousin looks just like her when she was younger.

After a gap of 40 years, yesteryears actors Zeenat Aman and Kabir Bedi are reuniting. Impressed by the soap ad in the 1970, director Sanjay Sharma decided to cast the pair in his upcoming film, ‘Dunno Y…Naa Jaane Kyun’. They last starred in 1971 in ‘Hulchul’.

In the movie, Zeenat Aman will play a catholic woman whose husband Kabir Bedi leaves her and her son 20 years ago. Their loves blossoms only when her husband returns back after 20 years. Sanjay did not want to cast a usual pair and so he has signed Zeenat and Kabir. Zeenat plays Rebecca.

In fact, both were so impressed with the script that they accepted to depict the role. Kabir is quite excited to act with Zeenat after a long period.

Excerpts From an Interview with Zeenat Aman:

Q: The entire nation continues to have a crush on you.

A: It’s such a wonderful thing to hear, thank you very much

Q: So many years have passed since you ruled, and yet new actresses every year continue to be compared with you.

A: What can I say? It just makes me feel iconic. I feel very special when I’m told girls look up to me.

Q: Why aren’t you seen on screen more often?

A: Honestly, I have not been offered anything substantial. The past years of my life have been devoted to my two sons. I’ve been so immersed in the task of being a single parent that I haven’t really given anything else a serious thought. Raising my sons has been my only priority. But now that they’re growing up, I’m open to roles. But nobody is knocking my door down (laughs heartily) .

Q: From “Hai hai yeh majboori” to “Mera gore gaalon ka” to “Chura liya hai tumne”, you continue to be associated with the most wonderful songs from the 1970s…

A: I was so fortunate to have those songs that are alive even today. Even today they’re being aired and played as remixes or whatever. I guess it was about being in the right place at the right time. When I did those songs or anything else in my career, I had no idea they’d be important later. I just went by instinct.

Q: Your colleague Shabana Azmi sang “Chura liya hai tumne” recently.

Alaughs) Yes, I’m aware of it. I saw “Loins Of Punjab Presents” and found it genuinely funny. I was quite tickled by the film and the homage.

Q: Do you watch the new films?

A: I want to see “Saawariya”. I saw “Om Shanti Om”. It goes back to ‘my’ era. And I loved it! I got most of the in house jokes. I thought it was an irreverent funny film.

Q: Do you think we need to be more reverent about the past?

A: Oh nonsense! I’ve two of the most irreverent kids in my house. They poke fun at everything. I enjoy irreverence. One can’t take oneself seriously. Just enjoy the moment. Today, I’m so happy to have the gift of life. I see so many of my colleagues in the entertainment industry not being around any longer. It’s so sad.

Q: You’ve gone through very trying times….

A: Yes, I’ve gone through all of that. They’ve made me stronger. There’s no fixed pattern or formula to life. No one is going to guarantee only happiness. There’ll be downs. The trick is to ride the downs and not get carried away by the highs. Just get on with life.

Q: Do you think stardom comes easier to today’s newcomers?

A: Not at all! Yes, some of them find it easier to get an entry. But everyone has to work hard, very hard. I did. It wasn’t easy for me.

Q: You were right at the top when you opted for marriage and motherhood. Is that what all actresses should do?

A: I can’t speak for other actresses. But yes, I desperately wanted to be a mother. I had no siblings. I was the only child. After 15 years in the movie business, I was ready to have my own family. And to have a family you need to be married.

Q: Not necessarily.

A: Oh, to me marriage was imperative for motherhood. In a society, I could never impose my own morality on my children. I think it’s very wrong to be an unwed mother. You give your child the stigma of illegitimacy.

Q: So would you have gone without marriage if you didn’t want to be a mother?

A: Definitely! I got married in October and the next October I had my son with me. I’ve loved being a mom, though it hasn’t been easy for me being the nurturer and the bread provider.

Q: What have your sons been doing with their lives?

A: Azaan, who is 21, is studying direction in Britain. The other Zahaan 17, is into culinary arts. They’re young. Their priorities change constantly. Let’s see where do they finally go.

Q: Are you a friend to your sons?

A: I’ve told my sons, this is their home and they’re free to bring any of their friends here. I don’t want them doing anything on street corners. They’ve their parties, dinners, chit chats at home. I’m there for them, though I give them their space.

Q: How does your average day go?

A: Quite simply, like a whirlwind. Among my sons, staff, plants, chores and my gym, my day swishes by.

Q: Have you forgiven the men who have been nasty to you?

A: (Laughs) I don’t dwell on the past. I’m so full of ‘now’, so happy for the gift of each day. When I walk into the house, the dogs bathe me in such a warm welcome. That’d all I need.

Q: Don’t dodge the question, Zeenat. Have you forgiven the men who ill-treated you?

A: (After a silence) Yes, I’ve forgiven them completely. I see no point in harbouring grudges. I’d rather not have any negativity within me. It’s all gone, washed away. With every passing year it’s only the here and the now that seems important. As I talk to you, I’m sitting in Delhi attending a friend’s wedding, and I’m very happy. My boys are with me. And I feel I’ve a lot to be thankful for.

JAANA LETS FALL IN LOVE:

Screen goddesses of the past do not generally hog the limelight at film parties nowadays. But at the music launch of the film Jaana at a suburban Mumbai [ Images ] mall on Monday night, things were different.

It was Zeenat Aman's [ Images ] evening all the way.

Almost all the people who had assembled wanted her autograph, or to just chat up with the woman who gave sensuality a new meaning in Hindi films of the seventies.

"Jaana, Lets fall in love," will be Zeenat's first film in three years. She was last seen in Kaizad Gustad's Boom.

"I would like to say to as many people as possible that please go and see the film Jaana, because we all have worked hard to make it a good film," Zeenat said.

The film also stars yesteryear star Rajesh Khanna [ Images ] opposite her and features newcomers Rehan Khan and Anjana.

The film, produced by Tess Mirza and directed by Shahrukh-Farhan, is about Rajesh Khanna coming back to his native place after many years to find his old love Zeenat. The love between the young couple is also woven into it.

"It was a pleasant experience to be reunited (with her contemporary Rajesh Khanna) for the shoot," Zeenat said.

To the inevitable questions about her past glories, Zeenat said, "The past is past. There is no point in repeating what you did in the past. I think of today and today my film Jaana is coming and I hope audiences like it."


PS Sad to say that Jaana did not do well, and well we do look foward to Zeenie's Next flick.

Zeenat Aman To Rekindle Her ‘Chura Liya’ Magic For ‘Dunno Y... Naa Jaane Kyon’

Bollywood’s yesteryear beauty Zeenat Aman, who impressed thousands with her strumming of guitar in ‘Chura liye hai tumne’ from ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’, is all set to rekindle the magic in a new movie that has been titled, ‘Dunno Y... Naa Jaane Kyon’.

Zeenat Aman will be essaying the role of a glamorous mom in the film. Her looks have been designed in such a way that the mere look at her will remind the audience of the sensual looks she possessed for ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’. According to sources, Zeenat is working hard to get a trimmer look for the movie.

Zeenat Aman was roped in for ‘Dunno Y... Naa Jaane Kyon’ that is being directed by Sanjay Sharma, after being suggested by actor Kapil Sharma.

"In the film, Zeenat plays a woman who supports her entire family single-handedly after separating from her husband," said the source.

The movie, which is scheduled to be shot in Mumbai and the picturesque locations of Goa, will also have the former dancing queen of Bollywood, Helen.

She however continued to rule as the number one glamour girl but she soon showed signs of going astray. It was her affair of the heart that basically came in her way and spoilt her equilibrium. She was first linked with Dev Anand and was even prepared to marry him (and the feelings were mutual) but things did not work out and finally when she agreed to play the leading lady in Raj Kapoor's 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' their beautiful relationship came to a crashing end. They never worked together again. She was then said to be having a roaring affair with the handsome Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan which also failed. Imran was followed by a struggling actor called Kawalnjeet. And then she had 'a marriage of sorts' with Sanjay Khan, an already married man, a 'marriage' which ended in a very painful way which coincided with the gradual fading out of her grand career. She ultimately married a failed actor, Mazhar Khan, best known for his role as Abdul in Ramesh Sippy's 'Shaan'. They had two sons, Azhar and Ayaan. Zeenat was now reduced to an actress without any work. She was not even wanted in roles which were considered to be challenging because even after twenty five years serious filmmakers were not willing to accept her as a mature actress who could play roles which needed all the talent. She spent her time in bringing up her sons. She tried to produce films but could not fulfill her wish. She is now free of the responsibilities of bringing up her sons who she is trying to turn into actors. She is still full of all the zest for life. She tried politics and campaigned for the Congress during the last elections but could not make any impact. She is now being seen in some reality shows on television and is busy looking for other ways of using her experience, her enthusiasm and energy which are still intact. She is a complete story good enough to form the plot for a book and who knows she may write that book one day.

He was the playboy of cricket world and she was the sex goddess in the 70's and the combination was very lethal. Their chemistry sizzled and people waited with bated breath to see if they would finally get married. Unfortunately, it was a short-lived affair.

And while people in general were disappointed, there were many young men and women, who were relieved it didn't work out and that they were spared of the heartbreak.

Mazhar, she finally ended up getting married to, and they had two children,he died shortly after.
