Chinese restaurant owner shot dead in failed robbery bid

A Chinese restaurateur at Number 56 Village, Corentyne was Sunday night shot and killed by one of two customers in their failed bid to rob the business place, according to sources.

The incident occurred at about 8 O’clock Sunday night at the Sue Chinese restaurant which is located on the Number 56 Public Road near the village’s primary school.

Sources said the men bought food and after eating one of them shot the Chinese woman to her neck while she was standing by the door.  The woman’s husband and son exited the restaurant after the bandits fled the scene and rushed the woman to the Skeldon Hospital where she succumbed to her injury.

Her son reportedly said the bandits did not gain entry behind the counter and so did not cart off any cash or other valuables.

Armed robberies are prevalent in the Berbice Division for some time now, although there appears to be a general ease in recent months.
