Colour, flair light up the night – as Heritage Month gets off to spirited start
IN keeping with the theme “Preserving our Customs and Traditions”, Indigenous persons from across the country went all out to woo attendees at the Sophia Exhibition Site with colour, flair and culture, as Indigenous Heritage Month celebrations kicked off yesterday with the official launching.
Multitudes of eager persons were in attendance to sample the inimitable fare and witness what the Indigenous folks of Guyana had to offer. On exhibition were various delicacies such as tuma-pot, pepper pot, cassava bread, and farine cake, and beverages such as cassiri and piwari. Persons also used the opportunity to market their handmade craft items and clothing, which excited the attendees.
Speaking with some of the exhibitors, the Chronicle discovered that there was an increase in the number of booths on display; that exhibitors had worked very hard to get their products ready for the event; and that many were the challenges that they faced and overcame to get their produce to Georgetown from the different Amerindian villages countrywide.
