No. I remember a big bright shop near the train station. I was sibala in 1962 when my mamoo married Jan Singh's daughter at Enmore Pasture. Next visit: Easter weekend 1963. My mamee died in 1963 at age 23. Next visit: June 1974 when I spoke at a GAWU Enmore Martyrs' Day Rally at Roberts Square. Next visit: 1984 to attend another rally. Never stepped into Enmore after that. I got acquainted with Dr Balwant Singh in Georgetown. Another member of the clan, Indra Raj of Indra's Hair Dressing Salon on Oronoque St, cut my hair from 1972 to 1996.

Eight in Family Are Killed in British Guiana Bombing

GEORGETOWN, British Guiana, June 12—Arthur Abra‐ham, 47 years old, who was once permanent secretary in Premier Cheddi B. Jagan's of‐fice, and seven of his nine chil‐dren died today when their city home was burned down after terrorists had thrown two bombs into it. The children, four girls and three boys, were from 6 to 10 years old.

Mr. Abraham was transferred to the Ministry of Works six months ago after documents disappeared from his office.

The bombs were thrown as the family slept. Mrs. Abraham escaped by jumping through a window. The other two children were away from home.

Terrorists also tried to burn down the home of Senator Ann Jardim, a member of the

United Force party of Peter D’Aguiar.

Today's deaths brought to 46 the number of persons killed in the 121-day‐old strike of sugar workers.

(Over 30 of those killed in this number were Indians.  I don't have their names or the exact number.)

Mr. Abraham was a UF member and a lifelong civil servant who was the Permanent Secretary for the Premier's (Jagan) Office. He had previously worked in the Governor General's office before assuming the position at the Premier's Office. He was suspected of giving secrets to the opposition and was transferred out of the Premier's Office to the Ministry of Works. His daughter who was living in his home, was also a well known UF youth activist. She worked at Barclay's Bank and reported that she saw checks coming from Russia for the benefit of the PPP. She was charged with sedition by the PPP government for spilling state secrets.

The perpetrators of this heinous crime were never officially found but who had the motive to do this?

If you are insinuating that the PPP killed this family, you need to give us some more facts.  And why didn't Burnham take any action on this case since he was in power from 1964 - 1985?  Does that explain why the "The perpetrators of this heinous crime were never officially found."

Mrs. Patricia Abraham recently died a few months ago in Toronto at the age of 98.

Well you were insinuating that the PNC killed them and that they were Indian, without offering a shred of evidence. They were not Indian people and they belonged to the UF Party. The PNC and the UF had no motive to kill them since they were working with the Opposition against the PPP Government. The father and his daughter were accused by the PPP government of spilling state secrets. The father was transferred and the daughter was charged with a serious crime. Why didn't Jagan find the perpetrators if the PNC killed them? I presented the facts and it's quite obvious that the PPP had more to gain from their deaths than any other party.

Stop your hypocritical nonsense. It is a matter of record that violence perpetuated by BOTH groups led to people from BOTH groups being forced to move to places where their ethnic group dominated.

I know that your Indo KKK tendencies lead to you wanting to paint blacks as savages but you will NOT be allowed to do this.

Gilbakka never attended Accabre College. He was never invited to attend a course. With modesty Gilbakka can say today that he was far more brilliant than tutors at Accabre who were drawn from Freedom House or GAWU office.

As for your second question, here is my answer. I was a serious political activist who spent my pocket money to buy PPP-Marxist-Socialist-Communist literature from Michael Forde Bookshop. At the height of the Cold War, having regard to the prevailing international situation and how it impacted on the local situation, I strove conscientiously to arm myself with necessary knowledge. As you know, knowledge is power. As it turned out, such a background served me well during my journalism days.

Predominantly Indian is not the same as wholly Indian. A minority of blacks lived in Enmore and were chased out by the Indians during the 1960s racial disturbances. My mamee was from Enmore Pasture and in 1962 I heard her telling my mamoo about her black neighbours. My mamee was a relative of your mother and Dr Balwant Singh.

Likewise, Leonora had a few black residents who were also chased out because Leonora was/is a well-known PPP stronghold. In August 1969 Burnham officially opened the newly built Leonora Government School. In his speech Burnham recalled his last visit to Leonora during the 1964 election campaign. He said someone pelted him with a bottle that cut his knee. I watched as he lifted up his pants sleeve to show the scar. I was a teacher there. Now, if dem Leonora people could give Burnham a life scar, what would they not do to an ordinary blackman?

This painting is a distortion of Forbes Burnham's real face. At this rate, 32 years from now the artist's memory would have dimmed further and he might draw Burnham to look like Cuffy.

Now, to the meat of the matter. When Burnham was Head of Government I was a PPP member. In 1977 Party Leader Cheddi Jagan wanted a National Patriotic Front Government with Burnham's PNC. His overture was rebuffed. In 1985 Jagan and Burnham were holding talks for a National Unity Government of the PPP+PNC. Burnham died midway and his successor Desmond Hoyte killed the project.

Obviously, Jagan saw some virtues in Burnham and vice versa. Gilbakka sees some virtues in both Burnham and Jagan. True, both had flaws but they were products of their era.

According to one newspaper report, President Granger said yesterday that the State will henceforward finance the commemoration of death anniversaries of ALL Guyana's presidents. That is a good thing.

Since 1961 Dr.Jagan invited Mr.Burnham and the PNC to join him and the PPP in some form of power sharing but this was ignoired by the PNC leadership which was already in negotiating with external forces to remove the PPP. Dr.Jagan was consistent in his efforts to foster unity and eventually in 1985 a formula was worked out for a power sharing arrangement. Some members of the inter party committee which brokered the proposed arrangement are still alive and can reached for clarification on this. It was agreed  that after the 1985 PPP congress an announcement would have been made however Burnham died before this coulld happen . In the meantime Hoyte scuttled the plans after his return from a trip to the USA.

It was pure Cold War politics. Janet Jagan was a Marxist Leninist so Castro became interested.  The USA, fearing that Guyana might become another Cuba got the UK to rein him in and concocted a CIA plan to remove him. Castro and Moscow concocted their own plan to keep Jagan there.

Roll forward to the 70s. Moscow determined that all left wing parties should be supported, not just the Marxist ones so embraced people like Burnham, Manley and Bishop, and even lent a friendly ear to Eric Williams.

Jagan was told to cooperate and like the little commie lap dog that he was followed their orders to befriend Burnham even though he knew that he was a monster.  Fidel was in almost as bad shape as by then he had done so much damage to Cuba that it couldn't survive without the USSR, so had to do as it was told.

Fidel Castro saw  many virtues in both men also.

Carib,

What you don't say is that LFS Burnham was also a passionate Leftist like Cheddie who worked hand in hand with Castro and his bosses in Moscow in supporting Marxist forces fighting in Mozambique, Rhodesia, Namibia, and South Africa. Forbes insisted on numerous occasions that his party was socialist from inception and is the true vanguard of the working people of Guyana. His real Marxist vision for Guyana was revealed in his speeches at the Sophia declaration. In those speeches he attacked the PPP for being a bourgouis party which never had the interest of the working class at heart. Nationalization of foreign industries in Guyana was prerequisite for building that society they envisioned as "each according to the ability to each according to his work".  Cheddie was vehement at the defection of many of his top idealogues to the PNC . He declared Burnham's socialism to be hoax and charged the Burnham was a skillful demagogue who was a genius at coaxing politicians over to his side.  Don't forget that the man who presided over the transformation of Guyana's economy to a planned economy was his finance minister, Desmond Hoyte, who later succeeded him in becoming president.

I studied Che Guevara's "Guerrilla Warfare", Regis Debray's "Revolution in the Revolution?", William J Pomeroy's "Guerrilla Warfare and Marxism", Vo Nguyen Giap's "Military Art of People's War" etc. I mastered the theory and was waiting for General Jagan's call to battle. It never came. De man soft.

Didn't  Accarbre College supplied you with the all of the above material  and information?

Did you just woke up one day and say you want to be a warfare guerrilla, or was the political party that you were affiliated cause you to think that yes you can overthrow the Government?

Au contraire,  I didn't support Jagdeo in all aspects of his presidency, but I respected his handling of the PNC insurgency as they attempted to make the country ungovernable post the mash day jail break via mo fiah slow fiah and freedom fighters fiasco. He broke the back of bullyism by the PNC.  Today there is now a tried and true formula for handling PNC criminals/politicians should they get out of hand.

Django, both parties have their faults. There was/is corruption in the PNC and PPP. We have a choice of two evils. I always choose the lesser of the two evils...the PPP. I am defending the PPP because they chose to address the welfare of the people first. They did not empty the treasury, hide $5 mil(USD) in someone's goady, give themselves 50% raises, blatantly practise racism, they hire only black PNC card carrying members, all the coolies in the ministries are being put in a back room working on "corporate development"(a term commonly used to set someone aside waiting to be fired).

The PPP was blatantly corrupt so they didn't have to give themselves pay increases.  The drastic display of wealth is all that we need to know as it certainly wasn't funded by their salaries.

Whose mission accomplished? Brammo was kidnapped and held for ransom. After the ransom was paid the kidnappers were still going to kill him. He escaped and within four hours of his escape, half of the gang were dead. The others, except for Fineman, were attended to shortly after (NOT by any of Guyana's security forces.) What role did the Rat play in these events?
