Cham, just for beating around a cheap bike would do, but I don't really know much about one of those over the other.

The pedals on my new bike was over $85, see the difference?

If you have a few more hundred to throw around then maybe a much better one can be had at Sport Chex. I saw they had one called "Jamis".

I wouldn't touch a CCM,from Crappy Tire nor(you know where I goin with this eh)...one from Wal mart.

Here is a site to check for cycles

This is for clothing

You must have nice riding shorts(padded) they are comfortable..and hear a secret nuh...they stretch well to fit the bamsy. You also need a cycling jersey, they have pockets on the back for carrying grub, wallet, candy, condoms etc

I wear the bib which is the shorts which has the (suspender like) material that go over the shoulder, the pant waist doesn't roll up nor down on long rides, everything stays in place. My riding shirt is sleeveless..gotta show off dem huge tattoed muscles.

I went to Dornellas place a couple days ago, I am thinking about another one but it hasn't come in as yet. By the time the thing gets in Iman gonna be broke then I gotta slide by you an borrow a small piece to help pay for it.

my Buddy, i will definitely ride or and so will the youngest...we take turn riding her dad's...only thing is we want a girly kinda bike with low bar...

i was going to get one few yrs back then last yr i was determined to get one...i know i will use it and it will help my knee

Just saw the CdnTire, it's 100 cheaper now, get a helmet also and wear it properly. I was scared into wearing mine, never wanted to until I saw a guy and his wife go by riding quite slow and as they turned from one street into another, the road had some loose stone and his bike slid, he fell, cracked his head and had to be rushed to hospital.

I thought if that happened to me at the speed I travel (speed of light) Iman seriousl wounded or dead.

There was a cool movie about bicycle couriers on the tv a short while back, something about a young child, I'll try and get the name.

2 things...no 3 things

oh wait 4 things

1. is now me see dis post

2. jersey sounds nice but me buss out a big laff about the stuff me can put in the pockets...me even read it out to my eldest girl

3.  i like the padded shorts suggestion

4.  d'ornellas...grrr

Get them to set the thing up properly and you can ride it comfortably home. Take the helmet with you. Get a bell and maybe a light at front and reflector/light for the rear if u plan on getting caught riding at night.

I sometimes carry reflective straps, they work well around the legs.

Tell them after the sale done, to throw in the bell and lights and the deal done for sure. They might throw in the bell it's cheaper.

I have a couple lights on mine, I push the front and it lights. It's about an inch high and they work well.

I like this thread!

Cain, what advice can you give about those adult bikes with three wheels at the back and a basket in front? I might be getting one of those soon

Cham, it's great that you'll be taking up riding again.Enjoy!

Mir I have seen those around it's probably a fun thing to ride I don't usually see them in the shops I go to now I think of it.

That's a cool bike for delivering newspapers, hehehe

Get a carrier bike like the ones the guys rode back home to deliver from the cake shop. It had the big carrier on the front.

Did not look. a 149 dollars bike will turn u off biking. Also you need to know what kind of biking you will do. If it is just to go to the store with a basket rack in front, it is a different bike from one you will ride with friends on a 10 to 20 mile trip. You should go to a few bike shops, try out their various pricing bikes to see what you feel comfortable on. Take a friend who knows bikes and can see you are in the best riding position, both sitting and angle of handle bars.

Aim to spend 400 to 500 on a first level bike. Anything cheaper will just break your spirits. You can get lots of good bike for that. Even the day tripper should not be a cheap 149 dollar bike. Even if you are just riding around the hood, wear bike shorts.

@ Stormborn

i definitely not spending no 4-500 on a bike for riding around the hood...lol

i am not a serious cyclist, jus recreational...

yesterday i rode about 3 km from the store where i bought the bike...i was wobbly

i wish i knew a real cyclist who could adjust the bike and advise me how to make it comfy...adjust the gears etc

i bought a memory foam gel seat but forgot the bell

i do have bike shorts for warmer weather, right now leggings will do

i may head out for a lil ride later today

Thanks for the advise

I kinda smell a hint..

I might have to stop by soon.

If you have tools it's easy ..............for some.

When seated on the bike, your toes, not your whole foot, should touch the road. Riding with a seat too low could give you those pains in the arse.

As you pedal, look at your foot on the down stroke ( YOU 'LL PROBABLY FALL OF THE BIKE BY NOW ,HEHEHE) your knee should be right over the crank (where the pedal goes into) this way, the power is going from your leg right into the pedal and you does tear ass dow the street this way.

If you are too far back, the seat goes forward etc.

The handle could be taken up or down depending on how you wish to ride.

Why don't you tell her the truth...the minimum bike price is between 4 and 5 hundred. Take her and show her bikes. If she needs a day tripper even those go for around that. If she gets a huffy or a mongoose ( low end) or any of those wallmart bikes we lose a potential biker.

Banna, I already told her that but obviously she will not ride as we would so a beater bike is good enough. It's all about priorities.

For me I spend a $1000-2000 on a guitar or a bike without a thought, but try and get me to put that same amount on a vehicle, yo rass mad or what?

The car I drive was purchased ten years ago for $3000 and I was mad about it, but it is ten years and still going.

A buddy supposed to be showing me one for $500 it better look bran new and run good.

Save the money on pants an put it toward a good bike. Doan think that riding would make you lose weight, you might want eat to keep the energy going an get a big belly.

The new bike I have could be called a hybrid, it's part mountain part street, doesn't have the hugh tires but not as skinny as a road bike.

You home tomorrow before/around lunch time? I have to go to the dr and one the way stop by for a quick one...oops I meant quick vist. I have a meeting with HR at Geneva Cntr so I have to be uptown by 2.

I could try to make it some other time before things get busy and I take off West or North.

Barrie is my new hangout.

cainstah, tomorrow i am out n about doing the gov't work and trying to mek few $$$ ...good luck with HR

@ losing weight...don't think i can ride that much to lose any weight...i rode up on that street beside the bike shop then to tower n down around...it was very windy

I went from my place along the Kaye Gardner Beltline which starts from the Mount Pleasant area ( bridge crosses Yonge St and the tracks just South of Davisville subway and it's only for bikes and runner/walkers/dogs, this took me to the Allan Expressway at Eglinton West and I turned back, took about an hour and it was very easy riding. Would probably take the same by car because of traffic.

The trail was well used lots of people/children/dogs to watch for.

Some trail riding in Scarborough go through the Hydro fields.

cain in the old days hubby and i used to do all the bike trails...Taylor creek to sunnybrook...woodbine south to the boardwalk etc...

i hit a rock and fell chipping the bone in my left elbow in 85!...after the 3rd child we used to ride the hydro fields bike trail with the young one in carrier... she started to ride and i walked...then someone stole my bike and that was it

All I know is at 146, any bike is not worth it. Better spend the money on a a pair of sneakers. Your daughter seem to have inherited her daddy's  smarts and not your pound foolish!!
