Berbice Cricket Board Second Division competition…#48 Challengers, Kennard’s Memorial CC & Cut & Load dominate

Cricketing action in the Berbice Cricket Board’s Second Division 40 overs competition continued, as teams battle to qualify for the next round of the competition.
In the Upper Corentyne Area, #48 Challengers got the upper hand of #73 Young Warriors when they defeated them by 91 runs in their feature game. Batting first, #48 Challengers scored 227 with batsmen M. Lalu 44, R. Ramnarine 41, D, Etwaroo 22 and M. Bhola scoring 21. Bowling for #73 Young Warriors, Lakeram Latchman took 3-29 in 7 overs, Azad Mohammed 4-29 in 7 overs and Odraj Singh 3-34 in his 63 over spell.
In their batting innings, #73 Young Warriors only managed to score 136 with Lakeram Latchman top scoring with 24, Gobin Roopram 21, Hamant Jagdeo 16 and Odraj Singh not out on 16… Bowling for #48 Challengers, B. Baldeo took 4-19 in 5.3 overs, J. Baijnauth 4-20 in 7 overs, while B. Persaud and B. Samaroo took one wicket each.
Over at the crowded #72 Cut & Load Ground, hosts Cut & Load emerged victorious over #70 CC in a closely contested match. Batting first, #70 CC scored 116 runs in their innings with Batsmen R. Yacoob 45, N. Yacoob 27 and A. Persaud 12. M Singh, bowling for Cut & Load was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5-23 in 7 overs. D. Chatterpaul and R. Joseph took 2 wickets each for 15 and 22 runs respectively.
#72 Cut & Load replied with an aggressive batting lineup, and reached their target of 117 in 18 overs. Batsman V. Persaud scored 50, while R. Persaud contributed a meaningful 21. Cut & Load won by 4 wickets.
At the Bush Lot Ground, Kennard’s Memorial Cricket Club defeated the newly formed Hard Knocks Team by 6 wickets in their first game of the competition. The rising Hard Knocks team batted first and scored 81 runs all out in 19.1 overs with T. Mendonza and L. Mendonza being the only 2 batsmen to reach double figures with 15 and 12 runs respectively. M. Rabindranauth took 3-15 in his 4 overs, while R. Bassoo and G. Mangroio took 2-15 and 2-20 respectively for Kennard’s Memorial CC.
Replying to the target of 81 set by Hard Knocks, the batsmen of Kennard’s Memorial CC were keen to win, as they achieved their goal in just 10 overs. R. Bassoo 28, K. Permaloo 17 and S. Seelall 12, were the key contributors for Kennard’s Memorial CC. L. Mendonza was the only bowler for Hard Knocks that took wickets with figures of 2-40 in his 5 over spell.
The Competition is now in its 6th week, and matches are continuing across Berbice.
