BCB inter zone U-15 Cricket

The Berbice Cricket Board’s Under-15 Inter Zone 50-over tournament commenced last Sunday at two venues as the young cricketers sought to impress the Berbice selectors ahead of the GCB’s Inter County U-15 competition, set to commence next February.
At the Young Warriors Cricket Club in Cumberland, Central/Upper Corentyne defeated New Amsterdam/Canje Zone by 59 runs.
Corentyne reached 159-9 with Rampersaud hitting 38 as C. Arokium took 4-59 and N. Samuels 2-39 for New Amsterdam/Canje were dismissed for 100 despite 24 from Avishkar Persaud. Rampertab Ramnauth had 4-17.
At the Bush Lot Ground in West Berbice, West Berbice defeated Lower Corentyne by 75 runs in their encounter.
Batting first, West Berbice scored 128 with A. Balman making 20 and D. Joseph 18. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, K. Cecil took 4-10 and A. Maniram 2-7.
In Lower Corentyne’s reply, only P. Ganesh (11) managed to reach double figures as he scored 11 as they were bowled out for 53.
The Competition continues on Saturday with Central/Upper Corentyne taking on West Berbice at Port Mourant Community Center and Lower Corentyne doing battle with New Amsterdam/ Canje at Albion.
BCB President, Dhieranidranauth Somwaru expressed satisfaction with the start of the competition and is confident that Berbice will do well in next year’s Inter-County Tournament.
Somwaru explained that the BCB will select a 30-man squad at the completion of the competition to begin training for the Inter-County fixtures.
